I did not see them traveling around the ship, but they did have designated time in the atrium when cast members would line up to trade. Also in the stores the cast members had lanyards on and would trade.
Sometime the folks directing you which resteraunt to go to would also have the lanyards on and would trade if asked.
I just got back from the Wonder on Thurs. 4/14. They wore lanyards and traded as well as they had pin trading every evening at 7:30 (i think thats the time) to meet other collectors/traders on board. They also have pins for sale that are limited to the Wonder or Magic only (depends on which ship you are on) and some that are only DCL. My DD got some cruise pins that she traded for onboard and was quite happy.
The CMs that greet you in the atrium when you board the ship have lanyards & my kids zeroed in on them right away for their very first trades. LOL! They became regulars with the CMs in the shops, who were WONDERFUL with them & really made them feel special. When the shops were closed on port days most of the CMs at GS had lanyards.
We just got back from the Magic Sat and they had pin trading every night at 7:30PM and a few days around the Mickey pool. There wasn't alot of people trading. My DS's got to trade alot with the CM's. I think that was one of there favorite things to do on the cruise. They didn't enjoy being in the lab.
They are not as prevalent as in the parks, but you do find some CMs that are wearing lanyards. There are two places you can buy pins - Mickey Mates and the pin cart which only comes out at 7:30 as others have stated.
Depending on when you go you can buy some valuable traders. Look out for the Artist Choice pins, they are in high demand. If you are lucky you will be on a cruise over a holiday so you can buy the appropriate holiday pin which is also a good trader. In reality, most DCL limited edition pins are also popular.
The third annual November pin cruise (fifth in total) will be on the Wonder Nov 13 - 17, 2005. I would imagine 500+ pin traders will be on that cruise. More information about pin trading can be found at dizpins.com
last year we were on a pin trading cruise and my kids were disappointed that the CMs would not trade with them because the CMs said they were wearing rare pins in honor of the pin trading cruise....my kids were really disappointed since they love to trade pins...i hope things are different on the cruise this year...

There is an unwritten rule of pin trading that the CMs did not adhere to. If a pin is on your lanyard then it is for trade. If you have a pin on your clothing that means you like the pin and have no intentions of trading it; although it can't hurt to ask.
That is rediculous!!! Especially since they were kids. They are suppose to trade whatever you want to for which ever pin you want to give them unless they already have it on their lanyard.
