I've seen posts on here about "exchanging pins" and wearing lanyards and I have no idea what they're talking about. Somebody enlighten me?

Check out the site below. You get a lnayard and buy some pins to put on it and if you approach a CM at WDW and they have a pin you would rather have than one of yours you can trade them even swap. Even if yours was 4.00 and theirs was 10.00. (they didn't pay for them) There are a few rules but for the most part that is a simple explanantion of how it works.

Pin trading is really alot of fun once you start. A lanyard is worn around the neck to display your pins. We usually stop at the Disney outlet @Premier Outlet Mall and buy a few discontinued ones for trading. Then you can approach any CM and check out their pins and trade for one you want. Other park guests may ask if you'd like to make a trade, too. You don't have to if you don't want, but a CM must trade if you ask. I've collected a lanyard full of Tinkerbell pins that I will never trade but love to wear because they make me happy. I've bought some that appealed to me on E-Bay that are no longer available. Every person I've introduced to pin trading/collecting has become hooked in a matter of minutes. I hope you enjoy it if you decide to give it a try.

If you go to the Collector's Board I'm sure someone there will be happy to help you with any questions you may have. There are a couple of pin sites that offer loads of info too along with pictures. Fun hobby but very addictive.

Hint: Bring to Disney and put on your own lanyard only those pins you are willing to trade away (surrender).

You may have favorite pins but other people looking at you in the park will only think to themselves, "seen one pin seen them all".

Also less heartbreak if a pin falls off and gets lost.

OOhhh this sounds like fun. I checked out the link provided by a previous poster, does anyone know how much the starter sets cost? Or lanyards and pins seperately.
Also can you purchase these anywhere else besides at WDW? Thanks!

We buy some pins at disneyshopping.com to use as traders. Sometimes they have a good sale on pins. You can buy a WDW lanyard at the parks or at your resort's gift shop for $5.00. I'm not sure how much the starter sets with the pins and lanyards cost. If you use Magical Express, you'll get a certificate for 2 free bus pins at your resort's gift shop.

We are not serious traders and collectors looking for rare pins. We just trade with cast members for fun. Ds and I get pins we like. Dd has a Tink theme going and will trade for Tink pins only.

My six-year-old really got into the pins on our last trip. He still hasn't grasped the concept of trading yet. (A nice young man asked to trade with my son and my poor boy looked so confused. He loved his pins, why would he want to trade them away?! )

Pins were also a nice way to bribe him onto rides he was a bit scared of... "If you ride Tower of Terror, you can pick out a pin for it... " It totally worked!!
