HI
we are planning our very first disney trip for next fall
I have 3 gitls that will be 16,13,10 when we go to disney
I have read about the pins but I know nothing about where to find them
and how do people actually trade pins?
Please fill me in on how to get started
I thought it would be fun to get them some for all the upcoming holidys and birthdays before we go on our trip
Thanks
Jeanne

Just walk into the parks, you'll see the pincarts in several spots. There are pins available in many stores as well, you can ask any CM about where you can buy them.

If you want tradables, I recommend that you go to cheappins.com and stock up on several of them for great prices. When you see a CM with a lanyard (he/she will wear the nametag as well) just walk up. I always ask:"can I see your pins?". If I do not see anything I am interested in trading, I just say thank you and keep going. It is a blast to trade with CMs, they get a kick out of it. In several pin trading stations they have a book that you can look through and swap pins out of it, by yourself.

There are some spots with tables for collectors to trade. You'll see a big "Pin Trading" sign. That's where the experience becomes more personal. While CMs won't reject your pins, not every collector will accept your trades. It depends on who you meet and what they seek. I'd be more cautious of trading with them until you are more familiar with the pins. You don't want anyone bamboozling you into losing your best pins!

What cracks me up is that with all the hoopla we see out here, many CMs did not even know where the pin stations were located in their park! You actually do not see too many collectors walking around with lanyards. In my last trip I saw, I'd say, less than 10% of the guests with lanyards. Most do not wear them, and in some parks (like MGM), you can hardly find a CM with a lanyard. So, those interested in trading gather by themselves most times.

Get what you like, and you'll enjoy your pins more. Don't play chase against others, racing to get anything that comes out and your collection will be more maningful!

In honor of Walt Disney's 100th birthday, the Disney Store will be carrying a countdown series. Several pins will be released each week between September 22 and December. This is a good way to see if your girls will be interested in collecting and you can pick up a few extras since these will be tradeable with the Cast Members and other collectors.

A good place to find out about pins in general is DizPins (They give info about what is coming out each day) and PinPics tells you what is out there. It will seem overwhelming if you go to PinPics because there are over 6,000 pins in the database but the search features are set up so you can look at fav characters or even just go to Pin Groups. On Oct. 6th Disneyland Paris is going to start pin trading and you can order their rack pins online. There will be a link at either of the 2 websites above when the time comes.

Another place to start your collection is E*** in the disneyana pins collectables. There are lots of pins from the last pin event at EpCot, DL and Even the Pin Parade there for not too much over cost. It is a good way to get started on some of the ones you have missed.

I collect with my two sons ages 6 & 10. They love it. Your kids will have a ball. I think the key is to bring some traders with you. It can get expensive to buy rack pins just to trade. My first trip I found I did not trade alot because I would have to buy a pin to trade. Most pins in the park are $8 or more.

I have heard that many of the pins sold at the Disney Store starting 9/22 will be $4. The suggestions to go to cheap pins (make sure they are acceptable trading pins ~ there is a special category) or ebay are good. It's easy to find pins in the $4 range to trade. I often buy traders on ebay. If you wait and watch you can get pins for about $4 each (watch the shipping costs, most sellers will combine shipping costs if you buy a few pins from them). Sometimes they go as cheap as 3 pins for $8.99 w/ no shipping. It doesn't really matter what your traders are if you are trading with a CM. They will accept anything Disney.

Most of all, have fun!
