Just thinking about this. Has anyone packed pins in their carry on for the plane. I told DS he could carry his. Thanks

Although I have never done it, I have read several posts that say that it is fine. Also, my aunt just did this without a problem.

Hey! When I was in Disney I bought this Pin Carrying Case, it looks sorta like a laptop case, and I bought it with me on the plane, they did however open it and look threw it but then when they saw it was just pins they sent me on my way. I paid about $40 for the case but you can almost definately find a cheaper one online. I dont carry it around disney I just carry the ones I want to trade/showoff on my lanyard and leave the case at the hotel. :goodvibes

I have done it. The lanyard and pins caused us to be flagged for a security check but they let us through with them. I think the huge chunk of metal on the x-ray caused them to want to check the backpack. ;) Once they saw them though, they let us pass with no problems.

Should I put the pins on the laynard right now they are in a ziplock bag.

I always go on with the pins on my laynard. I just put the laynard in my purse.

This year I'm brings my case of pins on the carry on and I asked this a while ago and everybody said it's fine.

Have fun.

Since we usually take an early flight and head to the parks as soon as we check in, I have always packed the lanyard in my backpack and never had any problems.

We just recently stayed at POFQ and were checking out with Magical express. They asked if we had any pins lanyards in our carry ons? We said yes and were told to put them in the suitcases that they weren't allowed on the plane. Didn't know when we got the airport that DS had his lanyard in his carryon and we were worried about security but had to problems at all.

Well this is new, no one has ever asked us that before. We try to take a late flight so we can spend time at a park before we leave...and on those trips I had the lanyard in my backpack on the way home as well. They allow scissors now on the plane with a blade length of 4" and under, I can't see why they wouldn't allow pins with a 1/4" post.

Great question. I was wondering that myself. This will be my first year bringing the lanyard with so I don't want it to get taken away.

We always bring the kids lanyards on the plane, I just usually pull them out of the backpack and put them in the bins with our shoes and stuff so they can see what they are.

Never had a problem taking pins on lanyards (that is plural) :goodvibes

I usually put them in the outside flap of the carry-on and unzip the top of the flap when setting it on the conveyor belt. So the checkers can take a look if they want to.

DD has taken both pins on her lanyard and her big pin case, which is the size of a laptop and full of pins. We've never had and issue and she's never even gotten special screening.

i with us they always make us put it into our suite case cause new law is that you can not take any sharp objects with you on an airplane but they let you carry matches or a lighter

Not sure about pins and lanyards but we had a nasty incident with a Pal Mickey on our last trip.

Apparently Mickey's x-ray silhouette bears a striking resemblance to something that goes boom....which is not good....when you're going through airport security....hoping to fly somewhere.

That's not new, you have not been able to take sharp objects on a plane for years, and in fact, the terms have been relaxed some and you can now take scissors under 4" in length, so I hardly think a pin or two is going to be a problem. About the only way to hurt someone with a lanyard of pins is if you use it like a bolo and throw the darn thing. I also know from personal experience that a lanyard with a heavy trading medal hanging on it can fly up and smack you right between the eyes on a good, long drop on the Tower of Terror, but since the ride isn't on the plane that does not apply ;)

If you read the current list of prohibited items (which is always a good idea before flying) at http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#4 you will see you can even take a corkscrew or knitting needles. Nothing on that page is mentioned about jewelry of any sort, and I hardly think a Disney pin is more dangerous than a corkscrew. :thumbsup2

For the past two years on my return trip, I've had a Disney Shopping bag filled with pins (still on their cards) in my carry-on. When I get to the X-ray, I just take the bag of pins out. They usually open the bag and look inside, but I've never had a problem. I pretty much plan to do the same thing this year too. Hope that helps!

Asked a TSA friend and she said it wasn't a problem taking the pins on the plane. They may want to look in your bag due to the density of the pins, (if they are in a bag and kind of bunched up) they can't see through that with the machine. Same thing happens if you have a bunch of change in a bag.
Annoying to them but in her words "I'd rather deal with pins and change all day then get stuck on shoe removal duty".:faint:

I always pack my pin bags and my lanyard in my carryon bag and never had any problems doing that. Sometimes they have been searched when going threw security and other times they were not.
