Hi, I have never watched Pinocchio, but I would like some opinions before renting it as if it's appropriate for 3 and 4 yr. olds. I know that since this is an older Disney movie it might have drinking (as in Dumbo) or smoking (as in Peter Pan), has anyone found anything not so great for kids in it? BTW, my kids didn't like Dumbo and they LOVE Peter Pan.

My DS's 8 & 5 just watched it for the first time and their comments were interesting. DS8 (my thoughtful and considerate one) said he thought it was sad, and DS5 (my not quite as thoughtful and considerate one ;) ) said the movie made him mad because Pinocchio "wouldn't listen and kept hanging out with the fox".
I didn't watch it w/them so I can't comment, but I do remember the fox (I think it's a fox) trying to get Pinocchio to do bad things and it gets him in trouble?
At least that's what my DSs got out of it.

Yeah, and there are supposed children smoking cigars while in the Pleasure Island scene...so, I'm a little iffy. But I do want to watch it, simply because it's a classic Disney movie and I've never fully seen it.

I haven't seen it in a while but I do remember the Cigar smoking scene.

The kids at Pleasure Island smoke cigars and turn into donkeys ie: you know what. It has a great message for kids and the adults know exactly what's going down. We love Pinocchio!

Just FYI for OP - yes, the kids turn into donkeys, but they are referred to several times as "jacka$$es" (don't know if that language would concern you).

We all watched the movie when we were kids, and we all turned out fine. I am sure it will not cause any damage.

I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but I just ordered it for my dd (3). She has been asking for it since she first saw the previews. I really don't remember anything objectionable, but you could watch it first to make sure you're comfortable.

Geppetto smokes also - a pipe. We just watched the movie on Saturday night and noticed the Disney has an anti smoking ad at the very beginning.

There is also drinking in the Pleasure Island scene.

I would have let my DD watch at 3 and 4 (actually I think we did watch it on VHS). She'd seen people smoke and drink well before that age.

Its a great movie!
