UPDATE :
I went to looking for the stainless steel core cutter. Wal-mart didnt have any. Bed Bath and Beyond were sold out. Those run for about $19. They did have the plastic one for $10 but I wasnt feeling it. I also searched on the net and found a youtube video that was long but I found this site with photos. I cut my pineapple using this method and its super easy and I'm happy with it. I was able to get close to the skin without wasting a lot of the fruit

Someone mentioned an electric pinapple cutter. I think it was electric. I love fresh pineapple but hate cleaning it and cutting it. lol!

Which kind and brand do you have ?
how much did you pay?
Where did you buy it?

I bought a fresh pineapple today and I cant wait to eat it! I've never seen one so let me know where you bought it and where to look/section of the store. Thanks inadvance :)

I have a manual pineapple cutter. We bought it at Aldi a couple of summers ago. During pineapple season DH can go through a pineapple every two days, so for us it is worth it. I think it was $5 or so.

This one on amazon is the same one, but for less $.

I have one like that as well and I love it. One tip is to put the pineapple in the sink, so the bottom is below counter height. It gives you more leverage and makes it easier. -- Suzanne

I bought the Pampered Chef one but haven't used it yet. It is just easier for me to buy the cored pineapples, and they are the same price.

We buy lots of fresh pineapples & used to have a plastic corer. We ended up ditching it and just cutting by hand. In the end it's just easier.

Speaking of pineapples, this summer we've started slicing (into larger pieces), dusting with cinnamon, & throwing on the grill. Delicious!

I just got this at Aldo this week,2.99! it is so easy to use,I love it! I used to dread cutting pineapples.....

I usually cut mine by hand but my sister had that one from aldi that was like 2.99...she let me use it and I was surprised at how easy it was, plus I could use the pineapple for a lapu lapu afterward which I cannot do when I cut it by hand!

Yum! How do you make a lapu lapu? And how do you cut the pineapple for it? Do share!!

We have this one:

... but ours is from the 1940-1050's. We found it, clean and in it's box, hidden in an upper cabinet a few houses ago. The cabinet went all the way to the ceiling, and the box was waaaay back on the topmost shelf. Must have been left behind when the prior owners moved out. It even has the original instructions.

DH kept it because it's unique, but I don't think it works very well. You need a lot of hand strength and coordination. I'll try the in-sink method to see if that makes it easier - thanks for the tip!

I love that spiral-sliced pineapple cutter someone posted upthread. It would look cool if you turned the spiral on its side and filled it with slices of melon. :hyper:

Looks like a lot of waste? I just use a knife and it's pretty easy. I saw one in Aldi's ad and thought about it, but fiqured it was another thing to flood the kitchen drawers.

Looks like a lot of waste?

I was wondering the same thing. Pineapple cutting is a messy job and I'd love something to make it easier, but the pictures I'm seeing on Amazon seem to leave a pretty thick wall of flesh around the side of the pineapple--at least 1/2" or more.

Is all of that pineapple lost when you use the cutter? Or is the picture different from the reality?

It depends on the size of the pineapple. Big pineapples will have more waste than smaller pineapples. For the convenience of the product though, I think it's worth it. I've nearly cut myself a few times while cutting pineapples the "old fashioned way".

The cutter I have leaves the bottom the the pineapple intact as long as I'm careful. Basically, I'm left with a big pineapple cup. I keep thinking about pouring a nice adult beverage such as a pina colada in that empty shell. :)
