Hello,

I was surfing the internet trying to help my friend find the approximate worth of his mother's Walt Disney World pin collection. I stumbled across this site and am posting in hopes that someone could assist me in evaluating their worth. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to the DIS and the Collectors Board, Amber. :)

A couple of suggestions that might help you out --

  1. www.pinpics.com is an online catalog of Disney pins. The only values they will list will be the retail value, not what the pin may be selling for in the secondary market or eBay. Each listing does display the numbers of members trading and wanting the pin, and many traders (myself included) use that to gauge demand for a pin.
  2. eBay, believe it or not, might be your best way to find out the current worth of certain pins. Just search active and completed auctions to see what the pins are selling for or have sold for recently.
  3. Tomart publishes a Disneyana magazine that features a pin value guide. Since the market can be very fluid, it may be slightly out of date. That magazine and Disney Magazine both will have advertisements from dealers of Disney memorabilia that you could contact if you want to sell the pins outright or have them appraised.

    Hope this helps!

Does your friend have permission to get his mom's pin collection valued? I had a friend who took my wife's sewing machine to get it appraised once and after hearing how much an antique sewing machine was worth I sold it, um I mean my friend sold it and bought me some cool camera equipment. One minor detail, my friend forgot that she didn't want to sell it, she just wanted to insure it. It ended up costing my friend more to get the dumb thing back.

That being said and assuming your friend is smarter than my friend, you can probably find out the value of the pins. It has been my experience that used pins in good condition will typically go for approximately 3 - 5 henways each. So if your friend's mother has 50 pins it is a safe bet that the collection could be sold for roughly 150 to 250 henways total. Depending on the pins it may be more beneficial to sell the pins individually rather than as a set. Some pins can go for up to 20 henways if it is rare and in great condition.

I hope that helps.

Jeff
