The pin code trick posted on this board worked and now I am thinking about switching plans to move over to the DL Hotel. It is only about $20 more a night, but I still hear so many good things about PP that I am not sure if it is worth it. Thoughts?
Thank you!

I have never stayed at PP but I do love DLH (although my husband always wants to stay at GCH). However my thought is that PP is generally priced a lot lower than DLH and you might not be able to get this kind of deal for DLH again in the future so it might be good to take advantage of it now when you can get it and consider PP next time. Of course the risk is that you will fall in love with DLH and not be able to accept not staying there in the future :)

Thanks for the input! Should I be worried about the construction that I read about? Do you have any idea if all of the rooms are updated yet?

I believe that all the rooms are completed now but perhaps someone else will be able to confirm that. I haven't been since last October so I am not sure what the construction is like right now and I have seen mixed opinions posted. The new food locations are open though and the slides are open although it sounds like the pool situation is not ideal. So I guess you do bring up a good point. I just am not sure you will get such good deals at DLH again.

Go to Disneyland.com and create an account. Do a room only search for the dates you want to go. Click the save offer button and wait. I received a pin code offer in the mail in about a week.

When is the pin code good for? We want to go in late February for my 40th birthday, if I could get DLH for $186, I would definitely stay there! Maybe later in the fall I could try the pin code trick...

It depends on whether you want to eat at your hotel more than one meal (choose DLH) and whether construction in the pool area would bother you (choose PPH.)

The Dobies prefer PPH to DLH because we eat in the parks and we are not real pool people (although we will probably stay at DLH one more time once they get the pools done to check it out.)

For 247, though, the Dobies would be lining up at GCH in a heartbeat!!!!!

When are you planning on going? Just curious, I'm hoping the pin code trick will work for me in the future.

We are going the first week of December. I know that it was based on my saved search because it is +2 days before and +2 days after the dates that I searched.

Has anyone had any luck doing this pin code trick for October dates? Or is it too close?

I did it about 2 weeks ago for 10/1-10/6 and got one by email about 6 days later for the dates I want. Mine was buy 2 nights plus PHs and get 2 nights free. It saved us $900 off the rate quoted on the website.

That's great! I hope that I get a different offer though since we are AP holders.

BTW to answer the OP's question I've stayed at both hotels and I'd switch to the DLH in a minute for $20 more a night. I like the DLH better and it's closer to the parks.

Thank you. After looking at the DLH more online I think that will be our preference.
Appreciate the feedback.

Is there a thread about the "pin trick"? I did a search and no luck finding anything for me.

sandgrace -

My most recent PIN code was for October, so it's not too early to get one. But DLR may run out of PIN codes for a while and not be able to offer any new October ones, so you have to be careful about that.

There's been multiple threads about the Saved Offer trick (in fact, we don't need so many threads about this trick!:rotfl2:), and I've explained it so many times in other threads. But I will explain it again, for anyone who doesn't have the scoop.

I am taking credit for 'discovering' this trick because, in all the discussion on this forum about how to get a PIN code offer in the past, I have never read this particular tip until I stumbled upon it last year. And now soooo many people are trying to get a PIN that some of the attempts are working and some are not. I wish there were a way to put the genie back in the bottle temporarily and get everyone to wait a bit before trying for a PIN because I have a feeling that so many PIN's have gone out that DLR ran out of rooms attached to the PIN code until the PIN's expire. But, people are hot to get that PIN, so this is what I did to get it.

This trick has worked for me two separate times - last year and this year.

My exact, step-by-step instructions are:

1. Create a "My Disneyland" account. Not a Disney.com account. Specifically, go to the Disneyland website, look for the little icon that says My Disneyland in the upper right section of the page, and create an account. Answer all the questions they ask you and say yes to any offers to send you newsletters, etc.

2. Stay logged into your My Disneyland account.

3. Either pull up the current advertised hotel offer on the DLR site, or go directly to the hotels section. Enter the dates of your trip and the desired hotel. The DLR system will calculate what the total due will be.

4. Save the hotel offer! When the hotel information appears on the page, you will see a little tab at the bottom that says Save, or Save Offer or something like that. Click on Save, and the offer will automatically save to your My Disneyland account. You can even check your My Disneyland account later to be sure the offer is there and saved.

5. Leave the Saved Offer there. Don't buy anything. Don't book anything. Don't spend any money on the DLR website.

In either a few days or a few weeks, via e-mail or snail mail, you should receive some correspondence from Disney Destinations. If it comes as an e-mail, the Subject line will say something about "Photos" of your chosen Disneyland Resort hotel, or something like that.

When you open up the e-mail, there should, hopefully, be a PIN code and rates for all three hotels towards the lower right section of the page. There will also be a "Book by" date on there. For example, if you got a PIN code for 2 weeks in November, you may be required to book the room by September 5th or something, or you lose it.

Most of the e-mail PIN codes have the $163 PPH rate, and there is a window of time in which the PIN code will apply. You MAY get a PIN code that does not apply to your trip dates. That has been happening a lot lately. So it helps if you can be flexible with when you make your trip, or else you may not be able to use the PIN code.

The snail mail PIN codes seem to have a lower rate for all 3 hotels. There's no telling if you will get an e-mail or snail mail.

You may get an e-mail that has no PIN code at all - that has also happened.

What happens is that your Saved Offer sends a message to DLR that a possible onsite guest showed interest in the hotels BUT did not pay the crazy rates the website gave you. So they want to lure you in with a better rate.

Many people have now received this PIN when they followed the steps. But lots of people have also received PIN's for times they cannot go, and other people have received nothing. The Saved Offer trick has a pretty good success rate overall, though. And this seems to be the only direct way that we know of that will most likely produce a PIN code.

Oh, and if you do not get a PIN code with the first attempt, it has been suggested to create another account with a separate e-mail address and try again, and that might do the trick.

Hope that helps!

One other thing I should mention or add to my above explanation of the Saved Offer trick is that most of the PIN codes that have gone out via e-mail as a result of this trick are good for one night stays, if that's what you prefer. In other words, most of them don't require you to book 2 nights. Some of the offers that people are getting (like TahoeMom) - and there is no telling why some are different - have the requirement of booking 2 nights.

Both of my Saved Offer PIN codes - last year and this year - were good for one night stays and beyond. These are not packages of any kind - these are "room only" bookings.

I received a PIN code last year that was good for my December dates, and the PIN I received this year was good for October 16 - October 31, so they cover all kinds of time frames as long as there are enough PIN codes to go around.
