My son (15) and I are going to WDW this August for the first time. I have read some about pin trading and it sounds like fun. Is this something that a 15 yo would be likely to do or is this something more for younger kids/girls? Any other info would be great!!

TIA

John

Pin trading really covers all age groups, and cultures.
If it were me, I would browse www.Pinpics.com with him and see if this is something that might interest him.

Pin trading really does offer much more than just collecting pieces of metal with a prong back.
It's a great way to meet people. If he is shy at all, this will help open that shell by talking and trading with CMs.
One thing I have noticed with pin trading is how everyone in the family gets involved and enjoys it. There aren't enough hobbies out there that offer something for everyone.
As trite as it sounds, Pin Trading is a great bonding tool.

I have two sons -- 16 and almost 18 -- both are avid collectors, and have been for 3-4 years.

As Barb mentioned, it is a wonderful hobby that crosses all age groups.

I don't know of many other hobbies where teenage sons are thrilled to spend hours with their parents doing anything!

Do not be surprised if you are sucked in too! :earseek:

I think it depends on the person regardless of their age.

My kids DD(15) DS(13) DD(10) all love it and have been involved with the trading part since 1999 (they have been collecting since they were born because DH and I collect).

Our nephews have been involved for a few years also, one is 20 and the other is 17, our niece although she has pins from us just had her first trading experience in 2003, she is 5. (all 3 of them have filled their lanyards and now have pinbags)

Our other 3 nephews twins (5) and a 2 year old (who as a matter of fact just got 2 more pins off of Auntie last week when we were practicing pronouncing the characters names) have pins from us, and will have their first trading experience this May, on their first trip to Disney.

Some of the rest of the family collects but doesn't trade.

All in all, let him "feel it out" he might enjoy it. Once he sees that this is something for all ages his interest might be aroused.

Have a great time!!

Thanks for all the great advice!!! I will visit the site you mentioned Luv2roam. I have been getting him involved in all the planning around our trip. I told him about the pin trading from what I learned on the boards. He seemed interested. 15 year olds are funny. I asked him if he would interact with the characters. He told me he didnt want to ruin what reputation he had. But then he told me he thought it would be cool to get their autographs! Go figure.

He could even collect *the cool* pins like RockNRoller Coaster, Tower of Terror, Disney babes ;) etc. :) Most males LOVE Jessica. :goodvibes :scratchin I can't figure that one out. ;)
Another great thing about pincollecting -- there is something for everyone! :)
You may even want to take him to Hard Rock Cafe by Universal. :)
