Pin trading?

So being a WDW vet with a trip to Disneyland planned, I need to know if there is significant pin trading with cast members in DLR? My son loves this and I usually recycle pins that he traded before when he was younger into new trading pins or get some pins to trade somewhere cheap.

We are also WDW vets but have been to DL last summer. We are going back again this summer.

I will say that it is not as popular as at WDW. People don't wear their lanyards as much and I didn't find trading as obvious as it is in WDW.

The cast members that have pins are very nice and do trade but finding them is just not as easy.

There is pin trading with CMs at DLR, just like at WDW. However, if you are used to WDW, you will notice that there is not as much at DLR. If you had never experienced WDW, I would reply, "Yep, CMs with lanyards are throughout the 2 parks and DtD and you can trade a lot." However, when we went to WDW we were amazed at HOW MANY cast members traded. So, yes, there's pin trading at DLR, but not as much as WDW.

P.S. If you are using your son's oldest pins as "recyclers," you may be trading away some valuable pins. Some of the older ones are worth quite a bit to collectors.

My kids also LOVE to trade and Disneyland is more mellow when it comes to trading though as stated the CMs are very sweet when trading- there are just less of them to trade with. My kids have the most fun trading with the other kids in our travel party of 11.

We just got back from DLR and there's more pin trading with CMs now than before. Rules and protocols are the same.

One difference we noticed is the color of the lanyard on CM who trade just with children - at WDW it's green, but at DLR I "think" it was teal. Also leads and management wear their pins on a maroon colored holder on their waist band and we found them to be among the nicest CMs to trade with.

I disagree with above poster who said its not as big at DL. They bring out barrels next to the shooting gallery and there are several people that setup to trade daily but especially on weekends. There are also CM's that come out in that same area to trade. Like others have said all CM's are happy to trade.

One interesting note: Some of the Expert traders who set up are looking for Cast Member pins that can be had if you look hard enough. My son went on a frenzy to find pins they wanted so he could get rare duplicates these people had. We even met other vacationers who had travelled to Toyko DL and we traded with them. Lots of fun. If you go on the weekend you have to check out these traders....its awesome to look at their collections.

Pin trading is big at DLR but remember that DLR is not as big as WDW so your expectations may not be met. Also remember that CM's at DLR trade if they want to, meaning they aren't made to wear the lanyards, so you may see more one day then you do another day.

We are going on weekdays, so hopefully we will find some fun traders and cast members. I was in DLR for a night alone in Dec so I know the scale difference to WDW and have reasonable expectations overall there but I appreciate the reminders

I ordered a lot of pins to trade on ebay today from a seller I've used before who sends good pins for trading - and sometimes there are cast member pins in there so I'll keep an eye out for expert traders too! Thanks for the tips and keep them coming!
