I've never done pin trading before but recently I've been buying some pins on ebay. I want to get a lanyard. But on the disney shopping site they only have a couple. there's one I like but it doesn't say if it's big enough for an adult.

Are all lanyards the same size or are there small ones for children too?

How much to lanyards typically cost? The one I like is $17...is that a lot?

If anyone is going to be at Disneyland soon...would they be willing to see what kind of lanyards are for sale and for how much and then let me know?

Thanks!

Lanyards come in both kid and adult sizes. I don't remember how much they cost, but I would not buy them online because some are made of a very stiff material and are uncomfortable to wear. I think we have about 12 different lanyards, and on our last trip we had our pins on our hats, back packs, and camera cases since the lanyards can get weighed down with all the pins on them:rotfl: It is up to you if you want to try a lanyard, but there are other options out there. Good luck and happy pin trading!!! Remember if a CM is wearing a green lanyard they will only trade with kids.

Lanyards in the parks are only about $6 for an adults and $5 for a kids. The kids lanyards are just a bit shorter, altho both of my girls "graduated" to adult sizes before our AP's expired. :) I wouldn't buy one for $17 unless you were getting a bunch of pins with it.

Awhile back someone on the DIS mentioned you could buy some cute Disney themed lanyards (for use as a keychain or whatnot) at WalMart for something like $5. Don't know if that is still the case, but it might be worth a try. I seem to remember that they said they were pretty good quality compared to the ones at the park.

A lanyard that's $17 probably either has pins or a dangly thing that keeps the lanyard flat.

For instance, I bought myself and hubby sets at Yule time, from the outlet section of disneyshopping (for way less than 17) that had things hanging from them. Hubby has a NBC lanyard with, hmm, Zero? on the big round thing that can hang from the lanyard. Is that the name of the white blobby dog-thing in the movie? And mine is a sort of Retro Disney/Mickey lanyard, with a retro Mickey Disney metal thing that can hang from it.

The lanyards themselves are NOT that expensive.

I read of someone saying there was a kid sized lanyard, but we've never seen one. We have, however, seen lanyards that people have knotted behind the neck of their kids. The lanyards I have (one from disney, one from costco travel, one from disneyshopping) velcro together in the front, at the bottom, so tying it in the back doesn't make it more or less hazardous in terms of choking (lest that's a question/concern raised), but it does make it shorter on the kiddo.

But as far as I know they fit adults generally.

You can buy a pin trader starter set which will include a lanyard and 4 pins for $25. If you figure $5 for the lanyard, you are paying $5/pin, which is less than you will pay per pin at the park, but a little more than you will pay elsewhere.

A note of caution on buying pins on ebay. The ONLY pins that are tradeable MUST be official Disney pins. There are many many many ebay sellers that have non-official Disney pins that they sell off as official. When you get to the Park, you are left with a bag filled with non-tradeable pins.

There are reputable pin sellers are ebay, that sell pins for as little as a dollar a pin if you buy 100, for example - you just have to make sure you are buying from them.

If you have any other pin trading questions, let me know. Love pin trading after a friend got me hooked!

Here's the one for $17. It's a limited edition of only 500. I love gerbera daisies.

Do they have cute things like that anywhere else? I don't want a boring/plain one. I at least want one that says Disneyland on it.

If they don't come with the thing on the end...what do you put on the end of it??

Thanks for all the great advice.

So far I've only purchased pins on ebay that I want to keep, not trade. But they are all official as far as I can tell. Although most are WDW pins. Not sure if those can even be traded at Disneyland anyway.

I might start a pin trading thread where people post photos of their favorite pins and stuff.

You're welcome.

WDW pins can be traded at DLR and vice-versa. Pins from the other Disney parks can be traded as well.

As for your question about "What goes on the end?" in regard to lanyards.

They sell countless things that you can put on there or you can leave it empty as I do because I hate to have something "thumping" me in the mid-section as I walk all day long. The lanyards that come in the starter sets usually have a cute little plastic picture thing (which I remove). MANY people buy a lanyard ornament that suits them.

I have several lanyards, but the one I where at the Park says Disneyland on it and has a metal loop at the bottom for a lanyard ornament (which I have chosen not to affix).

There is OODLES of pin trading "stuff" at disneypins . com if you really want to get hooked! I add this caution: It can become addicting VERY fast! Trust me on that. :)

Another question....if I wanted to trade pins in the park...I don't have to have them on a lanyard, correct? I could just pin them to my fannypack or something?

Thanks again.

It's a good thing I don't live in socal anymore. If I'd gotten into pin trading when I had an AP...I would really be obsessed, I'm sure...haha. Actually, I knew that would be the case which is why I never started. But now we only go once a year so I figure it's a safe hobby.

Correct.

Many people (generally those who trade a lot) carry their pins in pin notebooks bags like this one

or in a backpack version of that. Then there is on a lanyard or loose in a fannypack.

The above style bag has padded pages that you place your pins on so that you can open it up and flip through your notebook / bag like an album.

I have mine on my lanyard and in my fannypack because if I buy a bag / notebook like that I would be a collector and as I have told my DH many times, I'm not a collector, just someone who likes pins. :upsidedow (Don't look at ALLLLL the pins on my coffee table please. tyvm: Denial? Never! :rotfl: )

AND... you could have purchased the AP Exclusive pin every month! haha

Suuuuure it is. ;)

The only pin I've ever gotten in the parks was one given to use for spending a certain amount of money at dinner. It's a "5 decades of dining" annual passholder exclusive and it came in this little box. I never really liked it so I was glad it was a freebie.

But now I've purchased 9 pins on ebay. Of course, 5 of those are for my husband...haha. He's not really into it but he did find a lot of pins he liked so I bought them.

Which one is it? Those were limited edition. Only 10,000 of each were made and given out. They were for APs only and you had to spend the right amount of money, at the right place, in the right time frame to get it.

wow nice bag how much was that in park?
also mousepins.com is a grate site

I was trying to find a site that lists the most recent hidden mickey/cast lanyard pins but I couldn't find one. The disney site still have the 2005 list up. Anyone know where I could find that info?

I think we got it at the French Market...not at the Tomorrowland Terrace (we never eat there.)

Oh I love that pin!! That's too cute!! :) I have a bag like that but I can't carry it around the parks. It's tooooo heavy!!! OMG, way too heavy! LOL But DBF has one too and he carries it around, he also wears a lanyard for trading. I have 3 lanyards, I wear them depending on what my mood is. One is for traders only, one is for keepers only and 1 is for pirates only. My pirate lanyard has a pirate dangle hanging from the clip, my traders has my pouch that holds my passes (used to AP's) and any fastpasses we get, my keeper doesn't have anything dangling right now, it's heavy enough because I've got the locking backs on all those pins..It's heavy!! LOL I don't wear them all at the same time but I carry them in my backpack. :) You can find good traders at mousepinsonline.com. Like a PP said, be careful on eBay, I've found some good sellers there but I've also found some that sell pins that are NOT copyright Disney but they sell as if they are. Watch for "fantasy" pins, those are not copyright and not tradeable with CM's, they ARE highly tradable with collectors but not with CM's.

What are fantasy pins?
