I have been reading up on this board for a few months now but finally decided to join. :thumbsup2 We leave to Disneyland in 8 days:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: so I came here to get my questions answered!! My kids (DD14, DD12, and DS7) are excited to start pin trading. We have collected pins off ebay and are ready to start trading. So I was wondering, is there anything special that happens with your first pin trade? do you need to tell the CM that it is their first pin trade? Anything else I should know about pin trading?? Any tips you can share would be very appreciated.

i don't have any answers for you
as it will be my first time trading pins too (leaving this Sat 4-26)

but i heard that kids under 12 trade off a different lanyard than adults can trade on (CM wear different colors) i THINK the green is for the little kids

also
i read,
don't TOUCH the lanyard, let them bring it to you.

that's all i know, LOL

hope others answer w/ more!!

Trading pins with the castmembers is fabulously easy. Any castmember with a lanyard of pins will cheerfully trade any pin with your children. There are rules, but nothing a normal person needs to worry about. You're not playing blackjack in a casino. Just be polite. No worries. The castmembers (in general) truly enjoy the interaction with kids, and pin trading is fun. They'll make it fun for your kids, too.

I have not heard or seen anything special happening with a first pin trade. You don't need to tell the CM it's their first trade, in fact, you might want to avoid it. DD and I were talking about this JUST this morning, and she said that I told the CM it was her first trade and she was "so embarassed Mom!"

What normally happens is the kids look over what the CM has. When they pick the one they want to trade for, they take off the one they are giving the CM and put the pin on the back. The CM does the same, and then they trade the pins. The CM's don't care what the kid is trading, but I have heard they won't trade for Sedesma pins (check the back of your pins) and they won't trade for a pin they already have on their lanyard.

It's lots of fun, the kids will have a blast!

does it SAY "Sedesma" on the pin?
i just got 10 on ebay (she had good feedback, and i think i got her name from someone on this board)

mine have
"official disney pin" and "made in china" on it along w/ the micki ears

i am SO hoping these are OK to trade.

yes, sedesma pins say sedesma on the back.

I'm not into trading, but DH enjoys it. (Just not with the pins I pick out for him!)

Disney actually has info on trading. FAQ page here, and links to rules and even a PDF about trading etiquette here.

:)

Those are official Disney pins. We bought a set of 20 a few years ago on Ebay to start our kids out. It is a great way to get cheap pins to start trading with, especially if you had a referal for the seller :)

Your pins will be fine. If they have the Disney copyright they are fine to trade. :)
Be warned, 10 will likely not be enough for your trip, our family can easily go thru about 50 pins in 2 days. LOL But we are major into it, with CM's and with "regular" people. The CM's will trade any pin on their lanyard but they are not allowed to have 2 of the same pin so if they have what you are giving they won't take it, they will ask for something else of your choice. :) Regular people aren't always as nice, in fact they can be downright mean about trading. Not all of them of course, I love trading with other park goers but there are some I won't trade so I'll refuse it. As a park goer that is my right.
Have fun trading and remember that there are inexpensive pin sets available for purchase that are good for trading. :) PM me if you have more specific questions, I'll be happy to answer for you.

thank you for answering more questions... i am SURE i will :lmao:
right now i am in-between doing a video for my parents 50th anni--
disney in a week and if i can, upload a video.

i AM freaking out about the 10 i have (5 per kid, and we did a disney package--so they give us 4 so the kids will have 7 ea)

i just emailed the person i bought the pins from, and want to get some more.
do you think that if i ordered from them, pd right away--it would be here by Friday???
the person said she could send to a hotel too... that just seems too iffy though.

ACK
i'm excited, but also NERVOUS about all this (ok, not nervous, just panicked) :scared1:

this board is SO NICE though
can't wait to get back and post ALL my pictures

Some cast members have two sets of lanyards (one for kids traders and one for adults), even if you don't see the cast members pins ask if they trade, we found the guys sweeping up even in DTD had pins to trade and they were neat to talk to.

Thank you for all the great info!! We will be on the look out for the CM's that trade with kids. I am also glad that we have the right pins to trade with!! :thumbsup2 I can't wait to get to Disneyland and start trading pins!! btw My friends daughter got a special pin for her first pin trade with a CM and another one to "share the magic" I was just wondering if anything special happened to anyone else when trading!!

Here's what I know:

-Any official Disney pin is acceptable for trading, look for the Disney copyright on the back.

-You will see two different colored lanyards. Green is for children traders only and Blue is for both adults and kids. You may also see castmembers wearing pin hangers from their belts. These are also for trading, just a different way of displaying them.

-Castmembers are required to trade with guests. The pins they wear belong to the company.

-You can trade twice with the same castmember (up to two pins)

-You cannot trade for a pin the castmember already has

-There are some special "hidden mickey" pins that are popular with the kids and some adults! Look for the little silver mickey heads on the pins. There is a Villains collection and a Tinkerbelle teardrop collection. There might be others but these are the ones I know of.

-At the Frontierland entrance throughout the day, castmembers bring out pin bags full of pins, theres usually a line to trade from these pin books/bags but you can usually find some gems. :thumbsup2

-Most importantly, have fun! Castmembers with lanyards love to trade and talk about pins. :lovestruc

Have fun and just look out for the crappy Sedesman pins. Our first and only experience with Sedesma pins is actually from a pin trading station at DCA! My DS was so excited to trade pins (we had just bought them - full price, from DCA). We did not research this before we went - who knew?? He ended up trading MY brand new Tinker Bell pin for the crappy Nemo pin - which I just recently (because of all my time spending "researching" on this board ;) ) realized (by looking at the back of the pin where it is clearly marked "Sedesma") that it really is a cheap, crappy pin!

I told him that he owes me a new Tinker Bell pin this trip ;-)

the thing about buyingin the store AT the park... it seems like my girls would buy the ones the want to KEEP. KWIM?

i don't know if i could *stand* there and see them trade for some obviously inferior pin -- but we will probably end up doing the same thing, as,
i only got 10 pins (and have 4 coming w/ a disney package)

i wish there was somewhere to get them cheaper, not on ebay (b/c of shipping)

anyone know of any place? does that character warehouse sell pins???

watch our for pins that had a name on them and thenit was scraped off or painted over.....we have got burned my these a couple of times, the Cm's say find the cast member you traded for it, how could we remember that? Just look close! It's tons of fun!

i have been lookign for the site i got mine on im mad i cant find it. its not in my favs If any one can think of any the sites maybe i can find mine too

For additional savings, be sure to check out the prices of our Grab Bags of Disney pins. The pins in our Grab Bags may include Bertoni pins, ProPin pins, Cast Lanyard pins, Hidden Mickey pins, as well as pins you would purchase at Disney parks. We do not sell EuroDisney pins, Sedesma pins, or the small Disney pins some call cuties.
