Well, I have a few questions but would also appreciate any input/tips you might have on the subject. I bought my two younger daughters a few (15 each) pins to trade while on vacation- thye are all Disney pins-I know they can ONLY trade Disney pins-They have their lanyards to put them on. Are there certain times/places or are CM walking around with lanyards/pins? Are they picky about trading? Do they only want "top of line" expensive pins or are they pretty lienient with the kids? I also read somewhere that different colored lanyards meant different things like a certain color was only to trade with kids etc..?? Help anyone??! THANKS

CM's with lanyards are everywhere, and green is especilly for kids!

My kids take average pins, and trade for some better, and some worse, and more of the same. A few CM's gave them a hard time for trading away cruddy pins that they had traded for earlier. My littlest boy collected 6 Sedesma hyena pins at one point...'cuz he liked them! Then he wanted something else... But when someone gave us a hard time, we just moved on. It wasn't worth feeling crappy about.

The majority of the CM's are absolutely wonderful!

I get angry when I read CMs give kids... or even adults.. a hard time. It's not like the pins belong to the CMs they all go into vats at the end of the day from what I hear. Isn't part of the magic of disney for everyone to be a kid with no worry? To insult someone because their pins aren't good enough is silly.

Especially since they GOT those pins from CMs or.. who knows.. they may have paid more on ebay for a pin that isn't "good enough" than it would've cost to buy a "good pin".... I, for one, can't tell the difference. I hope when I go with my pins I'm not made a fool of by a CM... if they did it the disney way I imagine a very easy magical transaction where I don't have to ASK a cm if a trade is ok.. if that's the case they should have seperate lanyards with certain types and if you say "I want to trade this pin" they can say "chose from this lanyard"...

Even then, though.. do you know how much of a profit disney makes off of those pins? They're INCREDIBLY cheap to make yet we pay $10 + to buy them!

I'm sorry you're little guy was given a hard time:(

Awww, thanks! The first time, it upset me. Then we just learned to shrug it off. I like for the kids to trade for whatever they want. They follow characters, rather than quality, etc. 99% of the time it is one of our favorite pastimes when we visit!

To the pp I am sorry you had trouble with the CMs and the trading. We went in December. My dd 3 at the time, wore her lanyard and I wore mine. I never once had a problem with trading. Many CM's were eager to show me their supply and the gentleman who worked at our resort's (POFQ) store told me all about how to trade etc... The thing I liked is that you get to pick what pin of thiers you want. The CM's can't tell you what you can and can not have except if you are trying to give them a pin they already have. Yes, the green lanyards are for kids only. I was told by a CM that their lanyard and pins are like a part of their work outfit. They do not own the set they trade with so they can not keep any back or horde for themselves. I am sure there is the occasional person who can be a spoil sport, but most are wonderful!!

**Danitom, you and your kids will have a great time trading. THere is no specific time to trade. Whenever you see a CM with a lanyard just ask to look at it and trade away. I think another rule is maximum trade of two pins per CM, to be fair to others.

Have a wonderful time!!

I can't imagine any CM refusing to trade as long as the pin has a Disney stamp on the back, and even the Sedesma pins are stamped with Disney. Am I sometimes dissappointed with the quality of pins someone trades me? Yes, of course. When I have nicer pins, more guests want to trade with me; and I love pin trading even if the pins aren't really mine. Do I refuse to trade? No, of course not -- as long as it has a Disney stamp, I don't already have it on my lanyard, and you aren't trading for more than 2 pins. Of course, I will show that I am thrilled with my new pin regardless. And, I'm not implying the OP was being less than truthful by saying a CM wouldn't trade. I just don't understand it. I mean the pins aren't theirs to begin with.

What is a good amount to have on your lanyard when you start? My dd wants try this on out next trip.

You may want to consider investing in locking pin backs as I find the mickey-backs sure come off easy. You can buy the locking pin backs (a small brass cylinder that screws on to the pin back w/an allen wrench) wherever pins are sold. I can't remember the price....maybe $8 for 6. Definately use them for your keepers!!

Thank you all for your help. My two younger girls are "pin trading FREAKS!!" Although we have never experienced "disney pin trading" they both play tournament fastpitch softball and have each been on teams that get "team trading pins" made and when they go to BIG tournaments (World, Nationals) they trade with other teams. Some of these pins are SO AWESOME!!! I can't wait to see what they get for trading their DISNEY PINS!!!

I have a question.. how can you tell a Sedesma from a disney pin if they both say disney on the back? I'm getting worried now because i just ordered a ton of pins off of ebay.

They wil have Sedesma on the back as well as Disney. However, even without Sedesma on the back, you can just tell. They are lighter and have more of a plastic feel and look to them. The backs are also often black or more of a brass color than the gold and silver backs you see on the newer Disney pins. These are just generalizations, of course, because you'll find non-Sedesma Disney pins with black backs, too. It is hard to describe, but after awhile you can just tell. We actually have 2 Sedesma pins that my girls love and wouldn't think of trading, so they aren't all bad. The EuroDisney pins are my least favorite.

Thanks, mini girl! And great job on the wt loss! I just started a strict plan this week... I have more to lose than you but am hoping it just melts off (yeah right!)

My boys love to trade pins and now my youngest wants in - he's 4. I bought a bunch online - look at the description to see the quality and type of pins you're buying. I bought a set of 25, of those I'd like to keep at least 10 and between the four of us we'll trade the rest. Our boys trade for what they like, although they do look for the "special" pins - the ones with the mickey head on them - you only can get them from cast members.

When we were there this past August and at Epcot near Mickey Gear at 4:00 they had some sort of 30 second trade every day for the kids-they got a free one I believe. Unfortunately we only found out our last day there and couldn't check this out. Anyone know if this if still happening? You also could trade a CS or TS (I can't remember which) for a lanyard and pin - I'm not sure if this is still going on either.

Hey ya'll,

I have been looking everywhere for a certain Disney pin and I have bid on it at least 6 or 7 times on Ebay, but I have always been outbid. Does anyone want to trade or know of anyone who has this pin? Please, I have all the other 5 pins from this series. Let me know at Ziggychic90@aol.com
Thanks

I can't believe a CM would give a kid a hard time.

Almost two years ago, we made our first trip after having my daughter. We were walking unto Mission Space, and I noticed a too cute pin that a CM had. It was a baby Minnie mouse that said First time Mommy! *Or something similar* I mentioned that I loved the pin, she asked if I was a new mom, I pointed to my dad sitting back holding the baby and she handed it over. I don't trade pins, and I was shocked. I thanked her so many times, it's the sweetest pin ever.

Sigh, I wish everyone always had good Disney moments.

Becky,

What pin are you looking for? I collect and trade also. Did you look up what you need on www.pinpics.com? They have all the pins listed, and if you register as a trader, you can try to submit a trade request to see if anyone out there wants to trade you for something you have in exchange.

Another trading question:

Can you have "keepers" on the same lanyard as your traders? If so, how do you keep them apart?

I'm not into trading yet, but we won YOAMD lanyard sets, and plan to get started during our Thanksgiving week trip. I'd love to display the YOAMD pins on the lanyard, but don't want to trade them.
