Pin Trading Question

I hope I'm in the right forum for this one, here goes. My son became addicted to pin trading during our last visit. We are fortunate to know a cast member who had several pins they gave him to start his trading activity. He now has the entire "Pirates" series which he acquired by trading the donated pins. Now we are looking to buy pins that he isn't interested in so he can trade those for pins he wants. I'm a bit surprised by the cost of some of these pins. Does anyone know of a source for inexpensive Disney pins? I know I can get them on property but since we are purchasing simply to trade them away, I'm curious as to sets or types of pins that may be less costly and where I might find them.

Ebay. You can purchase a "lot" of pins for $1.25 a piece, sometimes less. We did that recently. Bought about 15 to 20 pins on an auction and kept 5 of them and are planning on trading the rest.

There is another forum on the regular DISboard regarding collectibles and I believe pin trading is in there.

Is the best place to do this....Buy lots cheaply, and trade away...What we do now, we trade maybe 10-15 a trip, and just buy what we like.....Of course that really gets to be a lot, we have over 800 in cases on our walls

If you have a car while at WDW I would recommend going to the Premium Outlets they have a Disney's Character Premiere store and the Prime Outlets which have a Disney's Character Warehouse stroe, because both locations sell WDW pins at half the cost or more then what they charge at WDW.

Thanks - have car, will travel. I'll check out ebay but will take a trip to the outlet mall. We're in town for 2 weeks next trip so We'll be able to follow up on that tip.

if you are at downtown Disney you can go to the Pin Trading spot and buy anything that has the year 2009 on it for 1/2 off. That is what we did. I like the ebay route if you have time though.

We used Mousepinsonline last trip and loved them. A little more than ebay but I had read lot's of good reviews about them on the DIS and felt safe using them. We got 50 pins for $100.

Be careful on eBay.. You can get non authentic pins there, especially when you buy in bulk.

Yes, please be very careful when using eBay. The PP who paid $1.25 per pin very likely got scrappers (or fakes) and traded them away. There is a good thread here on the Collector's Board that discusses good/bad eBay sellers, I know you will find someone there who has great pins for great prices. Enjoy trading!!
