I'm just wondering if anyone has some suggestions for good places to take my DS6 to trade pins while we're in WDW. He's a little timid, and neither of us have ever traded before, so we're total newbies.

I would imagine that we'll stick with mostly CMs, and I thought that I had once heard that some CMs trade only with the under 12 crowd, so we'd love to locate those folks if at all possible.

We'll be visiting all four parks and DTD, so I just want him to have a good experience.

Thanks!

I don't know of any, but I are going to start in january with my 7 year old, and would love to hear how you and your son like after your trip. Have a wonderful time!!

at the resorts, cleaning, selling, and working the rides. (we often had trouble getting where we were going 'cause we had to stop and look at all the pins.)

Don't worry about the "under 12" CMs either. Just find someone that is not too busy and ask to see their pins. They are all extremely friendly and nice about it. My son is very shy too.. but if they had a cool pin he was all over it. :)

They have to trade any pin they have for any pin you have, so load up on the cheapest ones you can find and have fun. My son was 5 then 7 when we went and it was definitely a highlight.

Also, look into getting special backs. We had trouble with the mickey ones falling off.

Just look for any CM with a lanyard. They can be found all over the place. Also, CMs with green lanyards are the ones who only trade with kids 12 and under. Have fun!

CM's with green lanyards are only allowed to trade with under 12 kids. I found that out last august. This lady had a pin I wanted and she couldnt trade with me cause she had a green lanyard.....My DD got that pin though....and you know she still wont give it to me!!!!!!!!!! LOL

In Downtown Disney there is a shack all about it in the Market Place!

Ditto what everyone said already... Your son is at a great age for pin trading. We tried pin trading for the first time with my 2 boys, ages 6 and 3, this past October. DS6 really got into it. It's a hard concept to explain at first and for them to understand. You just have to do it, and explain while doing. The first day was slower for us. We were nervous the first few times, but then felt totally comfortable seeking out CMs with pin lanyards. They have them on their neck, and then have a special square felt pad hanging from their belt for younger kids to trade only. Just approach them and ask nicely if you can see their pins. Have your son point to one he likes. The CM will unhook their pin and you hand them your pin to trade. Good manners are always important. I made my boys say "May I trade please" before they handed their pin over, then of course, thank yous.

The first 2 days, I carried a lanyard and we used that. After that, DS6 got to wear a lanyard and control his own pins. It was a lot of fun for us. By the last few days, we were trading all day long.

I started with about 100 pins, enough to cover both boys (which was probably 20 too many, but I was not trading). The first time doing anything new is a little bit awkward, but it's Disney and the CMs are very nice.

The folks who set up at the tables outside the pin shop in DTD can play rough. Some of them are delightful and are happy to trade, others are very abrupt with children and will only trade if you have something very rare that they REALLY want. And even the nice ones aren't shy about saying "You don't have anything I want to trade for." Stick to the CMs for trading.

I would stick with the CM's. Also ask at the resort gift shop. I am afraid that I don't know too much about it but there are pin boards just for kids. POFQ has one and there was one at the WL.

Also, the CM's will help if you have questions. My DSIL sent my DGD with some pins and me, who knew not a thing about pin trading. Well I did learn that once you start you are hooked! and that the CM's like to help the kids out. Remember to tell the kids that it is okay to tell a CM if they don't see a pin they want to trade. Also the CM can not trade if they already have the pin on their lanyard.

Hello

I would also stick with just CM. My DD 3 had so much fun trading pins. We looked for CM that were not too busy and they were so great with her. One of our favorite places to trade pins was in Frontier Land. There is a pin shop there and the Cast Members gave my DD a certificate for 1st time pin trader.

What kind of pins did you have your kids start with? Where did you get them? Sorry this is will be our first trip, so I am a little behind.

My DSIL bought a set from EBAY. They were nice pins but he had no idea that Kady would take to trading the way that she did. 10 pins were just a beginning so I bought little boxed sets that the CM pointed out. They were "cuties". Go to EBAY and search Disney Cuties and you will see what those pins are. Now my DSIL buys lots and my DGD trades them. He has had purchase pins that have duplicates, if DGD does not have the pin she doesn't want to trade it. AHw doesn't buy the cuties anymore, she likes to trade the larger pins now.

This is a nice thing to do at Disney, my DGD has learned to save her money for her pins. She saves and her Dad then buys them for her to trade. She has bought her own pins for her last two or three trips and she is only 7.

Our then 3 year old loved pin trading, at first she was shy about approaching CM's but we went in to stores that were not busy at all and she traded her little butt off! After the first day she would boldly walk up to people and ask to trade with them!
