UCFGrad01 said:Pardon the naive questions, I'm not a pin trader so am pretty new at this. I have a friend who is and has never been on a DCL ship, so I am planning to get some pins before I go and trade for some DCL ones for her as a gift. I don't need every pin out there, but it would be cool to get the "must have" DCL exclusives.
Anyone have any suggestions on how many pins I should plan to take (ballpark)? Best tips on when/where to trade, and any can't miss pins?
I got some inexpensive pins off eBay and traded for some DCL pins while on board. Most of the crew in the gift shops and customer service trade pins.
Also the cast members with hand wipes outside the buffet and dining rooms.. . . Most of the crew in the gift shops and customer service trade pins.
Do they have pin trading on the cruise ships??
We were on the Fantasy last year. In the shops they had a book you could trade from.
There were also 6 DCL specific pins. When you purchased something at the shop, you could add a pin to your purchase for I think an additional $2.95
Check the navigator when you get on each day (Bring a highlighter). There is one night they have pin trading with the Crew!
Enjoy!
Tell them you want some Special DCL pins for a friend - the crew will help - also swing by the concierge desk when it's quiet...Have fun!![]()

I believe most pin traders would frown on this practice, to say the least. Buying fake crappy pins on eBay to trade for authentic, quality pins is not cool. In fact it violates pin trading guidelines set forth by Disney.
The shop CM's, the CM's at guest services, and those with the wipes outside the buffets usually have pin lanyards or pin binders to trade from. There is also a pin kiosk set up outside the shops most evenings and the above mentioned 'officer's trading night' is a lot of fun. I even did a few with other cruisers as I had one this guy wanted and gave it to him, and he insisted on giving me one in return. I've given lots to little kids to get them started on trading.
There are the 6 mystery pins available from the gift shops that are square and fit together like a film strip. There are also many pins for DCL for sale in the shops. Sometimes the CMs have a good supply of DCL pins, especially from prior sailings, especially on the Wonder; CMs have had Panama Canal and Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii pins to trade, all left over from earlier sailings.
There are so many you'd never get them all, but it's fun to pick out a group and try to collect them in that set. I got a set of Disney Babies as deck hands, there are a few with the year numbers that interconnect, there are Castaway Cay sets of the Mount Rustmore. Just have fun.

I have bought Disney pins in lots off of ebay in the past and I have found them to be neither fake nor crappy. Just because someone doesn't pay $5 + for pins to trade doesn't mean they are doing something wrong.
In fact, ebay is a great place to buy pins in bulk to trade at the parks or on the ships.
