Hello all! My eldest will be 5 during our next trip and I have decided to experience pin trading with him. SO I have tons of questions:

1. Thinking of getting those trading pin starter kits - 1 for him and 1 for me. Is Disney online store the best place to get them? Do you have other recommendation.

2. I noticed that those starter kits only have about 4 pins which are 2 of each kind so he can keep a set and trade the other 2. Where can we get more pins to trade without breaking the bank? I know they are on eBay but I need a reputable seller who doesn't sell fake ones.

3. We are DVC members so which CMs will have DVC pins that they will trade?

4. I remember that there are varying colors of CM larnyard for adult and kids. I don't remember which is which, help!

5. How do you store or display your collection?

6. Any other tips are welcome?

You can get them at the Disney Store online or in the parks. I'd get them from the online store when they're having a sale.

I kind of doubt you'll find many ebay sellers that don't have fakes. I would look for starter sets that are still in the packaging with the carboard backing. That might be your best bet.

Do you mean to purchase? I would check any of the main pin stores in both parks to find DVC pins.

4. I remember that there are varying colors of CM larnyard for adult and kids. I don't remember which is which, help!

Teal/greenish ones are for kids only. Maroon and black are for anyone (including kids).

5. How do you store or display your collection?

I have some on a cork board; others are in pin books.

You seem to already be aware of the issue with scrappers. It's pretty much a given that if you trade with a CM, you'll probably end up with scrappers in your collection. So if this would bother you, then it's something to keep in mind before starting to get into trading. This thread a bit of a discussion about scrappers (along with general pin trading comments):

Check in all of the stores and other non-ride loading areas for CMs with lanyards. Also keep an eye out for "Suits" and janitorial staff, they sometimes have lanyards as well.

Be aware that there are non-CM pin traders hang around the parks and DTD, but approach them with caution. They are some nice/honest ones, but I've not run across very many. For most of them, this is business. If you find one that will trade your pin for their's, that's probably fine. If they ask you go buy a pin for them, I'd walk away. They typically won't trade if they think you have a scrapper. They also don't have to follow the guideline (i.e., they can refuse to trade, they can ask for more than one pin from you, etc.).

Finally, if you do decide to trade pins, have fun! :)

Thanks Figment_jii!

I am not aware of those lurkers!

For #3, I meant to trade with so I will edit my original post.

I would suggest searching on Ebay for Disney pins in large lots. You can get some great pins to trade with CMs. The last time I purchased pins on Ebay, I paid about 60¢ per pin when I bought 60 pins. This is a much better deal than the starter kits.
