Hi Everyone!! Thank you all for responding to my last post about getting started. I have purchased about 30 or so pins on eBay for my two daughters to do some trading when we at WDW over Thanksgiving. My next question is what is the best way to display them for trading? I am assuming a lanyard. Where can a lanyard be purchased or is there a way to search them on eBay? I always pull up the lanyard pins when I search. I imagine they are not too expensive, is there another place that sells them?

Thanks!!

Since nobody replied, I'll answer my own question. We ended up getting plain colored lanyards at the dollar store.

Any lanyard will do . I have also seen pins on hats, jackets and someone said that they had pins on their childs reins

Since my kids only trade with cast members I usually just carry them in my pocket. It makes it easier to get to them when it is time to trade.

get really heavy - depending on how many pins you have. If you have already gotten the lanyards, definately use them. You might want to purchase a pin book or a pin bag to keep your keepers (also so you do not lose any). My boyfriends son (17 now but has been pin collecting and trading for about 4 years) keeps his traders on a lanyard - and keeps his keepers from the current trip on a baseball Disney hat. He also had a pin book at home that has his keepers for the past 4 years.

When we were down this May - I kept my traders on a lanyard. I had purchased a small 3 ring binder - held 5 x 7 size paper. I purchased black foam sheets (at a craft store) cut them down to size and put holes in the sheets. The book held about 5 sheets (once they had the pins on them). I kept my keepers in there for this trip and then put them in my large keeper book when we got home.

Disney also sells a fanny pack that holds pins. I believe it zips 3 ways around and has 4 or 5 sheets in it that you can put you pins on.

I was in the Disney store in NYC on 5th Avenue last weekend and they have a new frame that holds pins. I believe it holds one 4 x 6 photo and it is like corkboard around the picture. You can then push your pins into the corkboard. Sounds like a great place to keep some of your prized pins along with a picture from the World.

Thanks for the info everyone. This is good stuff. My kids only have 11 pins each right now so need for books and bags, etc. We will keep them on the lanyard and in the backpack until they want to pull them out for trading.

**Sidenote discussion -- The pins I ended up buying on eBay specifically for trading were only ones that I thought they would like. I think that may have been a mistake because they have already fallen in love with all their pins and I am not sure they will want to trade. Has this happened to anyone? When they get there will they be more willing to trade? For example, the last pin I got on eBay was a Dash pin. Dash is my youngest daughter's favorite character and I knew she would love this pin. I told her Dash was mine and she needed to trade me for him. At first she didn't want to give up any of her pins but eventually, reluctantly, she made the trade for the Dash pin.

Yes, this has happened to all of us! Here are two tips:
1. Pick a theme and collect only that (e.g. Incredibles) But this also starts to multiply (niece started collecting Cinderella, then added Pocohontas, Rescuers, now has gone down the slippery slope of Tink and Stitch)

2. Buy 2 of each pin -one to keep and one to trade. This way you will trade it since you have one for your collection.

Will they be willing to trade? All depends...if the pin they see is more important to them than the one the cherish in their hands. Of course watch out for the "lets buy some here that we don't like so we can trade them"
There are Disney outlets in the area that sell pins at a discount.

That's how it always begins.. Buy what you want to collect. Buy two; one to keep and one to trade.

Next thing you know, the family has close to 2000 pins :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Who knew DD13 actually wanted to KEEP the Chicken Little LE pins?

It's a great family hobby. As long as it doesn't get out of hand.

When does it get out of hand?
Can someone put an level on it because i think i could be going that way. lol!!
Today arrived they atlas cast pins from MGM and AK. They are wonderful.

We are back and had a ball pin trading. The kids had a few "keepers" from the pins I got from ebay but they traded the rest. My wife and I gave them a few of our pins so they would have more to trade. It was very controlled. It did not get out of hand. Once we got to the point that there none left we wanted to trade, we stopped trading. We bought about 10 pins while down there including replacing my youngest two favorites that she lost off her lanyard (yes, she lost the Dash pin). They must have fallen off at some point. Ironically, anytime we wanted to trade, it was next to impossible to get those darn things off...
