DH and I are very into the pin trading/collecting. We visit DL at least once a year and feed our habit. This year we are taking DBro and DDad with us. I am contemplating on whether or not to get them the lanyards and pins. DDad is very into sports and I thought it would be cute to get him Mickey in various sports. My only concern is that neither of them go very often and I'm not sure how into it they would be to begin with. I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions. Thanks!

Why not, you got to start sometime and you and them may find it fun.

We took friends of the girls and one of the things we gifted them was pins to trade with. They wanted to choose their own lanyards when we got to the parks so they did and man, those girls loved pin trading. :) I know for sure that one of the girls has not been back since we took them (Feb 09) but she still talks about the pins and still has them on display on the lanyard in her room. When we were going all the time she would ask us to look for pins she might like. lol :) I say take extra pins for trading, but let them pick their own lanyards when you get there. :) DBF has the Mickey/Oakland A's pin, he loves it. :)

mouse pins online is good place i egt pins from id get a grab bag make them up some lanyerds so they could start if they like it good if not you may get pins back lol

Thanks for the adivce, I think I will do it for them, even if they only have them for this trip, it's still a nice momento.

DD has been into pins for years but this trip DH and I have decided to get a lanyard and start ourselves a small collection. I think it will be fun for your family. The sports theme is a great idea. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the tip on Mouse Pins too. After reading the pin thread with all the ebay sellers I was a bit overwhelmed. I don't want to pay a fortune but I don't want to contribute to all the "fake" pins either. Any other trusted sellers?

We thought pin trading was dorky when we first arrived at the Disneyland, we laughed at our Dad after he got a starter kit for half price for spending over $X! It was only on our last night in Anaheim that we decided to trade a few pins on it around Downtown Disney, and we were hooked! I think we traded 5 out of the original 8 pins and it was great fun going up to Cast Members and asking them. We're from Australia so it was a nice way to start conversation too. Can't wait to go back in the future and do some more trading. We're probably never going to return anytime in the next few years, but it's a great memory of our trip. I recommend getting a starter kit, there are a few types, but you get a lanyard and anywhere between 2 and 8 pins but well worth it.

I'm one of those who really AVOIDED getting into the whole pin thing..but bought a son and his 2 sons lanyards and pins for this past trip. The kids had never gone and I wanted them to see all the fun extras Disney has, and also bought them smashed penny books and autograph books, etc. Well, my SON got totally into this...everytime you turned around there he was, stopped with a CM staring at pins...So glad I got him these and it really added to his trip...and the boys liked it too, just not as much as my DS :)

I would get them pins, even if they don't return to Disney you can bring them pins back from your travels. Which would remind them of your holidays together

I'd do it! At the very least, they could put them somewhere special when they get home and it'll bring back memories of the vacation with you.

NO pin seller is 100% perfect, even MPOL. :)
OP I've purchased from MP and been very happy with the results, but I know others have had issues with them. I would buy from them again but wouldn't buy more then 25 or so. Read the first page of the eBay super thread, and then read the last 5 pages or so, those will be the most helpful for you right now. :)

i always get a grab bag of 75 for 123 before we go never had problems good luck

I've never traded pins before, but it looks like fun. I might have to start the next time the Dobies take a trip!

I will stick with my 25-30 from them. :) I am leery of buying larger lots from anyone, been burned by scrappers way too many times! :)

It's very fun and extremely addicting!! My best advice is to use the link in my sig to find out about scrappers and buying from eBay. Then to find a character (or two, or as in my case 5) or theme that you want to collect and stick with that. :)

I really appreciate all the adive. I think I will get some sports ones for DDad, because he'll probably just wear the lanyard and then some random ones for DBro because he'll want to pick out his own stuff I'm sure. Thanks again!
