Pin trading DISers! Some questions...

We got a set of 2 Tink pins when we were there for the million dreams thing. A CM gave them to my daughter (then almost 5). We werent pin traders, he just wanted to give a gift. Anyway, we aren't thinking about trading them, but my now almost 8 year old daughter is very interested in the concept of pin trading.

1. Can someone give me the "for dummies" version of pin trading?

2. Is it a large financial commitment (I do understand that it's one of those things that you can choose to put a lot or a little into) for an average person.

3. What tips would you give a newbie 8 year old? She is very cute and her dimples are irresistible !

I'm not a die hard pin trader, what I know is that when at the parks you can ask any CM to trade with you (no cost involved) as long as the pin you are trading has the disney stamp on the back. Also i know there used to be pin trading stations at the parks but not sure if they are still there. Outside the parks there are many traders that trade online. I personally only trade at the parks and always get a few pins that will remind of that trip. If you daughter is interested in starting a collection I know that the Disney store is having a sale on pins right now and of course you can find them for sale on ebay. As far as the cost I guess its how much you are willing to spend on them. I normally give myself a pin budget for each trip as they can add up fair quickly Hope this helps.

I also have the tink trader set from "Year of A Million Dreams." That set is meant to be "keep one, trade one."

We love pin trading. Like BMC said, as long as they are "real" Disney pins you can trade 'em. We happened to find batteries with official Disney pins inside of them (back around 2006) and used sales/coupons to load up on them since they were "official." Our trip following that purchase we traded a lot of them (still have a few leftover in fact) and got lots of cool pins that we love.

It is a small financial comittment. You need to buy a lanyard and a few pins (I bought two 20 pin lots really cheaply on ebay- I think it came to .75 per pin).

TONS of cast members wear these lanyards and are willing to trade anytime! There are some cast-members that wear a green lanyard (I think it's the green ones) that will only trade with children under a certain age.

Also, this is cute, the cast-members sometimes have a pin on reverse (backwards) and it is a hidden "mystery" pin. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it isn't- you could always trade it if you don't like it!

I did hear there is a certain pin trading spot, but never went to it and still successfully traded lots of times.

My 10 year old is looking forward to trading again, I gave him 10 traders to start for our upcoming trip.

My DD5 got into it last summer at DL. She really enjoyed finding cast members that wanted to trade with her!

We got a lot off of ebay and she kept the ones she wanted and only traded the ones she didn't want. We still have TONS left from that lot that she will be able to trade on our upcoming trip!

I even got her a $.99 Tink lanyard at Party City. They had several different characters, but she wanted the tink one. It is child sized, so it fit much better than the lanyards at the parks!
