Pin Traders- Pins in carry on luggage?

I'm planning a potential one day trip to Disneyland next month, and would love to bring my pins with me to trade (I assume they do that in DL right? I've only been to WDW!). I'm only planning on packing a carry on, has anyone taken their pins through TSA in their luggage and run into issues? I packed mine in my checked bag for my last trip to avoid any issues, and certainly don't want my pins confiscated! Thanks!

Just so you know, when I take my pins in my carry-on they always pull the bag from the belt for a further look. The pins show up strange on the x-ray, especially if you have a lot of them.

That's fine as long as they don't get thrown out!

I've had my traders pulled out for a "closer inspection" too. It took just a couple minutes.

Just an FYI to the OP: We do both WDW and DLR, and pin trading with CMs isn't as big at DLR. Every shop has a board and you obviously can buy pins everywhere, but the cast trading just doesn't seem to be as pervasive there.

We always pack our pins in our carryon and have never had the bag pulled for closer inspection. But we only take 2 lanyards of pins plus a handful of extras.

I only ever bring carry-on, and have never had a problem bringing pins (lots of them in a little zippered bag) through TSA. The only time I was stopped and asked to open the bag with pins and had them all looked through was in Munich, Germany, on our way home from a Europe trip that included Disneyland Paris. But after a few minutes, I repacked them and went on my way.

We think pin trading is much better at DL, than it is at WDW. We find DL has a lot fewer scrapers. There are a lot more authentic pins on CM lanyards and boards. We always wind up with much better pins on our DL trips than we do on our WDW trips. You will find lots of CMs with lanyards and lots of pin boards etc. if you make it to DTD, don't forget to trade there. We have found some great ones there.

I have been several times to the Unclaimed Baggage Ctr in Alabama where many lost bags go (they sell the items). I highly recommend to put anything you'd definitely hate to lose in carry-on bags only! :sad2:

I also take all of my pins (both the traders and the ones I've bought) as carry-on. As others have said, almost every time, the TSA security agent has had to take closer look inside that bag (probably because it looks like a huge mass of metal). I would strongly encourage you to put all of the pins in ziploc baggies, so that when they do inspect them, they're less likely to get lost or fall off the lanyard. Other than having to go through the extra security step, I haven't had any problems taking the pins as carry-on.

In terms of trading at DLR...yes, they do pin trading. As mentioned, check at the cash registers because many of the shops have pin boards. Trading with CMs is a bit more hit or miss...I've seen lots of CMs wearing lanyards on some trips, and very few wearing them on other trips. As with WDW, the best selection is usually best in the morning. Unfortunately, like WDW, there does seem to be fair amount of scrappers showing up on CM lanyards and pin boards.

We travel with the pin book and lanyards in a bag and I would say it's gotten to the point I have them in the bag where I can pull them out seperation just makes it easier on the flight down to mco heading home I don't worry about it so much as they see lots of pin books
