PIN Codes only for those with reservations?

I'm now trying to learn more about codes and PINs. I read the FAQ about PIN codes and understand that it's not clear how recipients of mail/e-mail PIN codes are chosen. But being new to this, it's also not clear to me whether you might recieve one without having an existing reservation, or if you need to have a reservation first.

Also, are there equivelent PINs or codes offered for Disney Cruise Lines?

I can't answer the cruise question.

But I can say that all you need to receive a PIN, is that your name and address are in their system. That can be from the Disney website, from a previous stay at a Disney resort ... whatever.

Heck, I still get emails encouraging me to visit Disneyland with discounts, because I used to go all the time and was an AP when I lived in California.

That's all it takes.

Your name in Disney's computers.

After that =-> it's pretty random.
