Pin Book

I now have so many pins that my lanyard is not going to hold them. I have locking backs and metal pinch backs but want something to hold my favorite pins in.

Would a book be the way to go? What do you suggest? Where to buy? I am very good at sewing, is there something I could sew up?

I did see the Disney pin trader on the outlet page but still is over $30 with shipping!

You could use pin books, but we find that they fill up fast. Another option might me a simple cork board.

Corkboards are good. No need for pin backs. We use 8 1/2 X 11 corkboards and put them in folders - the expanding ones you would use for paperwork - to store our keepers and keep them protected.

I made my own pin book for less then $20.00. I bought a black fabric binder that zips close all the way around for $9.99 at walmart. I bought craft foam 8x10 sheets and felt sheets in the craft section. The foam is easy to punch through with a hole puncher but the felt sheets are a little harder to punch through. I put the pins on the foam sheet and a felt sheet in between each foam sheet to protect the pins from the pinbacks from the previous page. I put 8 foam sheets in the book. Each sheet holds around twenty pins (depending on the size of the pin). I think it is important to use a binder that zips close all around so pins won't fall out if any come loose.

That's kind of what I did too. Remember to go with the zippered notebooks, I find the 3" ones work best because of all the bulk. As missj1975 said, the zipper is key - keeps any loose pins from escaping.

I want to bring the folder to the parks with me so if someone wants to see the "good pins" I can show them. I keep the tradeables on the lanyard.

So could you please give me very detailed instructions on how to make the folder out of pages? I have a zippered folio already but don't understand how to make the pages?

I think you should consider NOT bringing your keepers to the parks. Those are your keepers! How upset would you be if you lost your favorite pins! When you do get your pin book together, how about if you xerox the complete pages with the pins on them so you'll have pics of your pins available without possibly losing the actual pins. Or (I'm not completely sure) but I think one can also register pins on PinPics and then print out a somewhat personalized list complete with pics of *your* pins.

For your 'folio'
You cut the craftfoam into page-sized sheets that will fit in your folio.
You notebook punch holes for the rings.
You put the pages in your folio & put your pins on each page, arranging them in themes is nice.
You get sheets of stiff felt and place a 'page' cut to size between the pin/foam pages.

All of these supplies can be found at your local craft store - the craftfoam or flexi-foam, the stiff or craft felt, the notebook-hole punch.

Barring making your own, you can always buy a Disney pinbag through Disneyshopping.Com or Google 'pinbags' to find other vendors.

I suppose the DVD holders might work... Some people use those business card or baseball trading card plastic sheets. Maybe check out an office supply store for the business card holder-sheets and check out a hobby-supply store for the baseball trading card plastic sheets. Both of these 'sheets' have individual pockets that most pins will fit in, but you can't arrange your pins other than in rows.

Thanks for pointing out how completely devastated I would be if I lost my evil queen pins! I also have two sets of pirate pins and a coffee cup set. I don't really care for the princesses but I have a few sets because little ones like them so. I am always giving them away.

I will go to our local hardware store which has a small craft section and see if they have the foam sheets. Maybe they will have stiff sheets to protect the pins for in between.

I bought my foam sheets and felt sheets at Walmart. I didn't need to cut them down because they were already the size that fits into the binders. I used felt sheets to protect the pins for in between.

You can transport a lot of pins in bags, but binders (with baseball card holders) also work. There is no wrong answer - people store pins in anything, but for transporting pins we've gone to three ring binders.

I have one more question.How many pins do they hold? I have about 70 right now....

Tough to say, since it all depends on the sizes of the pins and how you space them. I will guess 150-200 pins per book. I looked in one of mine and some pages had 20-22 on them. 10 pages per book.

The pin bags from the parks are quite nice but they *are* expensive, the big ones are $40 or *more*, there are smaller sizes available that run from about $20 or so and up. So for half the price($20 - or less if you watch the sales) you can have a pinbook made up just the way you want it.

Yeah, I second the poster who mentioned Walmart for your pinbook "fixin's" (flexifoam, stiff felt, baseball card holder plastic sheets, zippered notebooks, whatever you decide to use). I would also check out Target, KMart...anyplace that carries school supplies...even office supply store. Check out the prices before you buy, that little hobbyplace might be expensive & Walmart could have the same exact thing on sale.

NJBB - I agree about the 3-ring binders, I always make sure to get the largest ones that are 3". Anything smaller doesn't usually work as well, the pins plus all the backing/protective material can get quite bulky.
