Next trip, we are bringing a stroller for DS who will be 5. I want to customize it to be more fun and less babyish. It's a used PegPerego Venezia that I bought for only $40. So I don't mind Any modifications! Paint, stickers, cutting, etc are all possible. Ideas? Help me design it!

I saw a thread like this before, but not sure what it was called, but anywhoo... there was a stroller on there and she had outlined it with tube lights and made a mickey head on the back. I've also seen where people have gotten heavy duty plastic and cut mickey head out of it and attatched it to the wheels of their strollers. HTH

That would be fun. But heavier since wouldn't you need a battery?

OP, will that stroller work with a 5 year old? I had never seen one, went looking, and saw either 40 or 45 pound weight limit on it. DS is 5.5 and has been 45+ for quite awhile. We just use a Volo in the color he picked (red).

It should work, it's quite stable, but I might have to remove/cut the bar in front so he can get in without climbing into it... so entry is more like a Volo or umbrellas stroller. Last trip, he wanted to walk a lot of the time, so I don't know about next year.... don't want to make the investment of buying another stroller.....

The disney rentals would work but so expensive.

This was exactly what I thought of when I read the thread title. Wish I could steer you in the right direction....

 that was me. OP I sent you a PM where you can find some pics. I'll track down my original photos and post them tomorrow -- time for bed now! :cloud9:

If you cut or remove the bar in front, what will that do to the structural integrity of the stroller? Could it fall apart on you or become a danger to your child?

Have you thought about having him walk on this trip instead of using the stroller? Sometimes if the adults will slow down to the child's pace, it makes it easier for the child to manage all the walking. Taking breaks will help, too.

Looking at the stroller, it's not possible to remove/adjust.... and may not be enough room for him to get in.... he was barely fitting this last trip and will be a whole year older.

I see some strollers that are open like an umbrella stroller but bigger and more sturdy. The more I think about it.... walking around MK is not an issue... AK is a fun park to walk in.... Epcot is the one park that is most difficult with long distances. If there's a stroller that works, I might get a new one and decorate it and put on some lights... If I found one that worked, I could always take it just in case.

We do plan to slow down the pace a bit. Might work best to just walk and maybe rent one at Epcot -- if we need one.

If your DS already prefered to walk most of last trip i would take that hint taht he is ready to be more grown up and just slow down as a PP said, rather than trying to make a stroller (which, let's face it is a baby/toddler item) seem more grown up for him (though I appreciate where you are comming from as a mom, I really do). Here is something you may try: The first time we did not have a stroller for DS he was four. We found he did fine all day but would start to drag around dinner time on many evenings. As I headed to the fron to rent a stroller for the first time there were several people returning theirs. I asked the lady heading in if I could give her the dopeistmoney and take her stroller since it was a lot to pay for jsut an hour or two. She was fine with it, I got a stroller rental for a dollar and DS got the break he needed at the end of the day and we did not have a stroller all day. I think we did that on three evenings during that week and every time someone was happy to let me take over their stroller for the deposit.

That's a really good point. If the stroller is made to have that bar, then it's part of the structure of the stroller. And if you're already hitting the max weight (going over max weight is going to make it really sloggy to push, FYI), that could push the thing over the edge.

I have no problem with a stroller at 5, absolutely none. We'll likely bring the Volo for DS at WDW, and he'll be 6.5 by then. It's just not worth the screaming leg aches he gets (and that I used to get too) if he overdoes it (I had a memorable legache for days, after doing an MD walkathon!).

But it should fit him and not have to be taken apart. :)

Well, as far as some saying your child might be too old...my dd used the WDW double stroller (extra room) until last May...she is now 8 years old. She is not going to have one this year, but it was useful to have it for her in the parks.

I would just suggest to rent a WDW double stroller either for the day or week (I just sucked it up and did a week rental)...as your ds will not require it for the walk between bus/monorail and hotel.

I'm not going to get into yes or no for your child on a stroller -- as you didn't ask that-- since you did ask about decorations--this is what we did.

Sorry that middle picture is so big! photobucket was not cooperating.

a portable Black and Decker battery pack was used to light it with a USB or a 110 outlet. (:confused3 -- DH can explain better if you need it)

We had such FUN with this thing! DS was 4 last year and he is 5 for this trip and this 'ride' is cool!

That is indeed cool. I've never worried about a stroller being uncool for DS, especially since he picked the color of the Volo, but that is very fun.

For the record, I'm just worried about the child's safety if things are being removed, and IF he's up to the weight limit. That's all.

And I'm not saying that the OP is NOT worried about safety...just sometimes we don't think of everything, and it's helpful when others nudge us to think of things we hadn't thought of! Especially buying a stroller secondhand, sometimes they don't have the info/instructions/weight info, so it's hard to think of checking for such a thing!

Does your DS think a stroller is babyish? If he does, then most likely there is no amount of stickers and cutouts you can add that will change his views. When kids decide that they are ready for big kid life, you can't disguise baby things and fool them.

DS4 didn't mind the stroller at all... but next year he will be 5, so his ideas about whether or not being in a stroller is babyish can change.

The more I think about it, I'll probably just skip the stroller for this reason. This past trip (at age 4), he was really active in the parks -- meaning we ended up parking the stroller for long periods of time because he was doing things......

At MK, he was hardly in the stroller at all because he was looking at the window displays, getting on rides, etc.... there is so much to see. Animal Kingdom was the same way. And Hollywood Studios is not a real big park. Epcot is the park with long distances between things.

I'm really thinking we will survive without a stroller at age 5. If he gets tired, then that will be a good thing because he will be more interested in taking a rest to eat a nice TS lunch or just take a break... or even a nap. We will not be staying out past the time he would fall asleep because we really liked getting up early and going to breakfast and the parks -- it's nice to start the parks early and get more done because the parks are less crowded in the morning.

Thank you everyone for all your thoughts! And that stroller with tube lights is very awesome.

I made an organizer for my niece so she could keep a water bottle and some snacks near her. I attached it on one side and she could reach down a get what she wanted.

I have a Perego P3.
