For those of you who have recently visited SWO... a few months ago, another poster observed that a few of the pilot whales that SWO rescued were being held in one of Blue Horizons' pools. That poster said that they were possibly going to introduce the animals into the show at some point. I was wondering if these whales were ever put into the show and if so, to what extent????

I never noticed pilot whales in the show, just dolphins. Not sure about the holding tanks.

Yes, there are pilot whales there. It will be awhile. One that was brought to SW in sept 2011 is just now being introduced tithe show pool before the show to by used to crowds and noise. The other 4 were jut rescued a few months ago and it will be a long time before they perform.

Oh, cool!!!! Can't wait to see the one they've allowed to swim before the show. I'll be there one day between 5/4 and 5/9. :)

On Monday, all 4 of the pilot whales were in a preshow so they are progressing! Obviously this is not an every day thing and it is not every show when they are in one. It'll be great hen they are ready to be in the actual show. :)

We were actually just on a behind the scenes tour today and heard about these whales... They can't be released due to health reasons. They rehab and release many animals, so I doubt they are keeping them to enslave them ;)

Very true. These whales were very sick when they beached themselves. I know even a couple died while trying to save them. Unfortunately we will never understand the reason why they continue to beach themselves. There was one case where they did release them and the beached again. I rather see them alive and healthy then dead on a beach. We live in the area where these whales beached themselves too.

Again...these threads are for trip planning. If you have a cause you want to champion...fine. Do it on the Community Board.
