... squish to nothing (eg, down)
... stay hard and hot (eg Tempurpedic)
... squish AND are hot (eg synthetic fillings)

I like a bit of a neck support, like a roll, when I sleep on my back. But I also like to sleep on my sides, and stomach at times. The synthetics are the ones I use now after trying the other two, but usually end up bending them so they form a nondeformed hump, and/or tuck my arm underneath, which usually results in some sort of neck/arm/shoulder pain a couple of hours later.

I can't imagine I'm the only one... what has worked for you? Please help by posting brands and price ranges too.

I got my pillows from Bed, Bath & Beyond. They are the "down alternative," synthetic ones. I'm a side sleeper and also like neck support, so I got the ones marked specifically for side sleepers. I also sit up in bed, reading or web surfing a lot, so they get a lot of abuse. They've been great.

I threw them in the washer recently and they re-fluffed back up really well. :cloud9: :thumbsup2

I used a 20% off BB&B coupon for each one and saved a bundle. :woohoo: You can usually find them in the Sunday newspaper inserts every few weeks.

For a long time I was going through pillows like one every 4 to 6 weeks. Finally what I decided to do was take one of the squished down ones and put it on top of the tempurpedic pillow and it works great. Now I hate the tempurpedic beds due to the massive heat they retain, but the pillow doesn't do the same...because I have a "normal" pillow on top thus a buffer....If you had the tempurpedic pillow already you may want to try that.

I found one from Bed Bath & Beyond as well. It was really inexpensive, maybe $20 and it was specifically for stomach sleepers. It is a little firmer than most stomach sleeping pillows and it has held its shape really well.

I think Bed, Bath & Beyond sells one like this. I remember thinking of going to this if the down alternative one I got didn't last.

Thanks. I will check out the Kohl's one at a store nearby, but would like to also know about the BBB one as there are multiple recs... model/brand? Haven't been to a BBB for ages, dunno why.

You probably haven't been to BB&B as they don't have regular sales. That's why the 20% off coupons are so important. When I got my pillows, my mom & sis went with me. I gave them each a coupon and between all of us, we must have saved $45 that trip. Their coupons don't really expire. They will usually still honor them. I used up a coupon a few weeks ago that was 2 years old.

As for pillow brands, I don't recall them having too many brands. They had a lot of styles, as in: down, alternative down, synthetic, polyfill, temperpedic, etc.

The "alternative down" pillows were all together. I just picked out the queen, side sleeper. Medium price, which I think was about $39.99, before the coupon.

Okay, I just pulled the pillow out of the case, It has gold trim around the edges, with gusseted sides. I think it might be this pillow, but in down alternative:

BB&B has a No Expiration date return policy. So if your pillow flattens down in 6 weeks, I'd return. A pillow should last longer than that, IMO.

We must have the same pillows. My DH sleeps on his back, I sleep on my side and we each got a pillow we're happy with. One of my kids keeps swiping DH's to use in his bed because it's still fluffy-guess I need to take another trip to BB&B.

Maybe that's my problem...I was buying the $9.99 blue light special at Walmart...you get what you pay for I guess.

There is a learning curve. :lmao:

I used to buy the cheapo polyfill pillows, too. There were times the filling flattened out so much, that I used to be able to shake all the filling into one end of the pillow and then flap the excess material over, creating a thick pillow, essentially the size of a toss pillow to sleep on. :sad2:
After that, I was willing to try a more expensive pillow, to see if it would stay puffy.

With BB&B's return policy, I didn't have anything to lose.

I'm having the same issue. Right now I'm using some Beautyrest synthetic pillow that I've probably had for over 5 years. It's got some little "humps" in it now and I know I need a new pillow. I've bought several types for Kohl's--even spent about $50.00 and I keep giving them away to other people in the house. Either my head sinks into the pillow too much or not at all. I just can't get it right. My crappy pillow has JUST the right amount of resistance but I can't seem to get that in any pillow I've tried.

I will never sleep on anything other than a microbead pillow again. The one I have used for years is the Tony Little pillow. I love that thing soooo much! I had all kinds of neck problems and tried every pillow on the market. When I finally picked this one up I had little hope that it would work. But it's PERFECT!!
