I hope someone can help me. I thought I read somewhere on this board that you could drop off a pillowcase to guest services (?) on the cruise ship and they would have the characters sign the case.

I can't get my search function to work so I have not been able to locate the thread(s) that talked about this.

Is this true? I will have my two neices on the Wonder with me in Feb 2003 and would love to do this for them. If this is available on the Wonder, where do we drop the cases off, when do we drop them off and then pick them up? Has anyone done this? Do plain white, cotton cases work best? What type of ink is used (e.g., can the cases be washed)?

Thanks much. Ellen

Hi,

Haven't done this myself but have read lots of threads. Basically you put a pillowcase in a ziploc bag with a sharpie marker. Make sure the case has something Disney, and definitely nothing from any other company. Drop it off at guest services near the beginning of the cruise and pick it up at the end.

If I have something wrong I'm sure one of our fellow boarders will correct me.

You can drop whatever you want sign at guest services. Make sure it is in a ziplock bag with your name a stateroom. You can leave markers but they won't always use them. Drop it off at guest services and they will tell you when to come back to pick it up- usually the next afternoon.

Make sure you heat set the item in the dryer and with an iron before you wash it. This helps the ink set.

We had a t-shirt signed that we purchased for DD in the gift shop. It said 'My first Disney Cruise Line cruise'. All the characters sign it and it turned out to be her favorite souvenier.

I just had the pillowcases signed on my cruise, as well as mats from disney pictures of characters that I purchased in the park. I put 5 colored markers in the bag and they used each color, and got lots of character autographs on all items. They did a beautiful job on every item! I brought the items to guest services and picked them up the next day. The contents of the bag was examined by the staff person at guest services to see if they were Disney items. The pillow cases were not, but she said that it did not matter, as long as there was no other "label" on the item. Only one of the items actually had the Disney price tag on it because I had to unwrap most of the items. None of my items had any other brand label on it so they signed everything. Hope that information helps you. Used ziplock bag with label of my name & stateroom #. Also labeled each of the items incase they became a stray in the signing process.

Here is a small tip. I put wax paper in my pillowcase that way the makers would not soak though. I turned in 2 plain white pillowcases the 1st day. CM told me as soon as they were done she would have someone call me to have them picked up.By the 3 day (3 night Cruise) I still had not gotten my call so I went back to GS and asked about my pillowcases. Someone went in the back and brought them to me unsigned> I asked why they were not signed yet. He (CM) had no clue why they were not signed but said he would take care of it. 3 hours later they were in my stateroom with 2 Piglet pens. I guess for not having them done when they said that they would be.

I took two plain white pillowcases to a monogramming shop in our town. on the side with the wide hem (where the pillow goes in) I'm having them write the kids names and room. On the other side Disney Wonder September 22-26. Do you think this will be ok?

I do not see why not. as long as they dont have something like snoppy or Charlie Brown on it. The wax paper worked really well.

jeleann - What a GREAT idea!! I was just going to use plain white pillowcases but embroidering them is such a nice momento of the cruise!! I hope you don't mind me using your idea!!

I think I am going to have these made up for my DD and my niece and nephew who are also coming on this cruise.

Thanks for the tip.

Lisa

LISA OF COURSE I DON'T MIND IF YOU (OR ANYONE) USE MY IDEA. I WOULDN'T HAVE EVEN KNOW ABOUT THE PILLOWCASES IF IT WASN'T FOR SOMEONE ELSE ON THE BOARD.
IT WAS A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN WHAT I EXCEPT TWO GET THEM BOTH DONE IT WAS $32. NOT BAD BUT MORE THAN WHAT I THOUGHT.

After I heard your embroidery idea I was on the phone getting quotes and each pillowcase is approximately $15 (not including the cost of the actual pillowcase). So I am glad that the quotes I am getting are pretty comparable to yours.

Thanks again for your idea. Like I said I was just going to bring PLAIN WHITE pillowcases with me - BLAH!! This is going to 'dress' them up a little and it is going to be a good momento!!

Thanks again.

Just got back on Saturday from the Magic and had the characters sign 2 pillowcases for my girls. We put on the girls Sleeping Beauty and Ariel costumes and took a picture with our digital camera. We printed them on the Iron On Cool Peel Transfer Paper and then I ironed them on the pillowcases. The pillowcases need to be of high thread count otherwise the picture does not come out as well. I left the pillowcases with guest services for all the characters to sign and the next day I picked them up. When I picked up my 4 and 2 yr olds from their "clubs" that night, they were so excited to go to sleep on their pillowcases. We just got home and I washed them for the first time. Unfortunately, some ink ran from the iron on transfer but I'll use a little Soft Scrub very carefully and get it out. The kids love the pillowcases and they are better and cheaper than the other souvenirs they had on board!

...having them embroidered at the Christmas Shop in DD??? They even have the special Disney logos that can go along with it!! ;)

I'll be doing this for our Dec. trip....:teeth:

What an Excellent idea! I was thinking of just bringing DD's Princess pillowcase but now I think I'll bring the Princess pillowcase and a monogrammed one:)

On the X-Mas magic my DD colored with magic markers a "DCL" pillowcase complete with Pluto and Goofy in the kid's club. I don't remember this being a scheduled activity (on navigator) but I am sure they can let you know when it is scheduled. This is a small airplane size pillowcase that includes the pillow.

I snuck it down to GS without her knowing and had it signed by all the characters and even though there wasn't much space to work with they just wrote smaller and fit in about 15 names. After she fell asleep I put where she could see it when she woke up and told her they all must have snuck in the cabin during the night and signed it. She bought it;) .

This was a special keepsake because it was her own artwork that was signed for her.

That is so sweet:)That was really a good idea too. There's nothing like bringing a little extra magic into our Children's hearts.
They're little for such a short time.

Is there a cost for this? Can you also put a white shirt in there if you want? What is the best type of marker? How many are you limited to?

From what I've read, there is no cost, but the item must be "Disney-fied"! :) Whether by putting a Disney transfer on a plain item, or buying a Disney shirt, etc... So far, I haven't heard about a limit, yet I wouldn't want to abuse the privilege. I'm just hoping that they will still be doing this for our Dec. cruise!

I am assuming that fabric markers would be the best to use.
