Anyone else planning to watch the new miniseries starting this Friday? I can't wait! :cool1:

Oh, thanks for the heads up! I read both books and have been waiting for this!

We don't get Starz, so I was thinking we'd just stream it from Netflix, but it doesn't look like they plan on subtitling it for the hearing impaired via Netflix, so it looks like we're out of luck until the DVDs come out.

I am waiting with a mix of excitement and trepidation. It is one of my all time favorite books, I remember standing at Canterbury Cathedral and thinking about the book. You can see how each section was done and I was in awe of how one area took one person's entire lifetime...but I digress!

I just hope they have done it justice, I have been looking forward to it all summer!

We don't get the channel it's on, but I wonder if I can get it on dvd sometime from Netflix?

Pillars of the Earth and World Without End are 2 of my all-time favorite books! There will be a new Follett book published in Sept. and I'm looking forward to reading it.

I really enjoyed The Tudors and like the historical slanted stuff. Sounds like I should give it try. Thanks for posting about it.

As I alluded to earlier, it is going to be available via Netflix streaming, as of next week (but it won't be closed captioned or subtitled). Starz has been pretty slow releasing discs of their original series - we waited and waited for Spartacus Blood and Sand, but it never got released. :confused3

I plan on watching. If you have Direct TV, it's going to be on the 101 channel this Wednesday. The 101 channel is part of their basic package. I'm not sure if they will show the entire series on that channel or not. I know they show Friday Night Lights on that channel before they put it on nbc.

There are currently no plans to run Pillars of the Earth on any over-the-air broadcast network. If the series does well, figure that a syndication cut of the series will eventually be forthcoming, presented perhaps even on a local independent television station.

Did anyone look at the cast pics? Do the actors look like the characters you had in your head? The only one that really shocked me was Prior Phillip. I NEVER pictured him as hot as the actor that is portraying him. I also pictured Tom Builder much more husky. I know they have to give us the "Hollywood" spin on it but it will take some getting used to. I just finished World Without End and I think I liked it better than Pillars. Anyone know if they plan on doing that one for TV as well?

So glad I read this thread! I've never read the books, but I love medieval period pieces and my boyfriend has all the cable channels. I'll be dvring this for sure if he doesn't want to watch it together! Great cast too--Matthew McFaddyen, Ian McShane, and Rufus Sewell are all some of my favorite actors (whose names I'm sure I can't spell).

Oh dear it doesn't look at all good disneyfied history yet again. Is it going to have a lot of historial rewriting like the tudors has? If you want interesting medieveal books try the time travellers guide to the middle ages by Ian Mortimer or any of the Brother Cadfael books by Ellis Peters.

I hope that they rewrite history a bit. If I want real history, I'll watch a documentary on the History Channel. When I watch a drama from HBO, Showtime, Starz, FX, USA, TNT, etc., I want to enjoy an artist's vision, and I want it to be entertaining.

There's also a Pillars of the Earth app for the iPad, which sounds awesome!

This Edition of “The Pillars of the Earth” offers an immersive way to read, watch and listen to Ken Follett’s story. It showcases exclusive videos with the author about his research and the process of bringing his book to the screen, and an innovative Character Tree that provides an aid to keeping the story’s characters straight.

I'm loading it now, but it's taking forever. I believe there will also be an app for the iphone and ipod touch.

I loved those books! ! am so disappointed though because we don't get Starz nor do we belong to Netflix. So how do I get to see this? Other than join up, any ideas?

Can you sign up for Starz for a month, then cancel?
