Whee! we're headed out for HHI Saturday morning & I must know is there great barbeque in or near Savannah? or HHI?
It doesn't have to be pretty just good home cooking
any family style restaurants you wouldn't miss?
We have Paula Deen's place noted & Bubba's down--has anyone eaten there?
Seafood? :fish: :fish: :fish:
Thanks for any info!

We can get messy, but we're fun (in a quiet sort of way! :teeth: )

Bryan's Pink Pig which is on the way to Savannah from Hilton Head has really good BBQ.

While I love going to The Lady and Sons, Paula Deen's restaurant, I must admit that I was disappointed with Uncle Bubba's Oyster House. In fairness to UB's, it was newly opened when we went so they might still have been working out the kinks.

Enjoy your trip!

Im jealous. Ive always wanted to go to Paula Dean's place. I see her show all the time and everything looks yummy.

*jonestavern - Your name sounds familiar. I think I ran into you back in Nov/Dec at Test Track on EMH one morning. If that was you, hello!

Yep, that was DH & DS17 at Test Track! :sunny:
Love meeting DISers!
did they have on their lime green jonestavern shirts?

Will co Bryan's. thanks for the tip!

No they didnt' have those shirts on. Actually, they spotted me. I had my lime green Mickey head on my lanyard. They were the first DISers I had ever met in the parks.

shamelessly bumping! :bounce:
Any good Sonics or Popeye's?
All you Sonic-holics--do you have a favorite Sonic going into HHI?

Hi Stacerita! that trip was a great DISer spotting trip for us!
We're in the parks again this Nov 12-19 :thumbsup2

Went to Bryan's Pink Pig! YUM!

got the full rack of ribs, & 3 pulled pork plates--Brunswick stew & coleslaw & bought some sauces. Didn't think I'd like the honey mustard, but it was really good & different than the run of the mill stuff that you get just everywhere.
Very homey & local. We'll go back, for sure-

The Lady & Sons (Paula Deen's place) was out of lunch seats by 9:30 am! folks were lined up by 10 am to get seats for dinner! :earseek: Mrs Wilkes' (also low country cooking with a long & excellent reputation) had a line down the block, too.
we ate lunch just down the block (in the original location of The Lady & Sons) from Paula Deen's at Molly MacPherson's, a Scottish themed pub named for the owners' great grandmother. Moderately priced, well-kept, tasty, traditional fare & good desserts!
We had bangers & mash, fish & chips & chicken pot pie. Smaller servings, but filling. I think the fish & chips could have been done better, but it was still tasty. Interesting selection of apps--we chose Scottish meat pies ( 2 about 2 inches across & 1 1/2" deep) & neep & tatties, seperate offerings of mashed turnip & potatoes.

thanks for all the info will be doing a trip report later!

I'm really glad you enjoyed your visit to the Pink Pig. I was thinking of you and wondered how you liked it. Yes, it's very local and that's what makes it special and different. Cute, too!

What day did you go to The Lady and Sons? Usually, if we're in line by 10:15 a.m. or so, that's plenty of time for lunch. That's on a weekday, though. Did you visit on a Saturday, perhaps? That could account for the crowds. Mrs. Wilkes, too, if you're there by 10 or so, you're usually OK for lunch. (They serve breakfast too.) Sorry you didn't get to sample either of them.

Looking forward to your trip report.

Hi Lisa :wave2:
we went on a Friday, we've decided to shoot for Mrs Wilkes' & the Lady...on another day next time there, perhaps a Tuesday? I mean there were folks milling on both sides of the street! :faint: Perhaps it was a convention week or some such?
the guys(DH, DFIL & DS17)were a little embarassed as I stopped & chatted with passersby to ask for alternative dining advice. I met a lot of sweet people & got some great info I can't wait to try out!
