Piecing together single nights

I’m a brand new member trying to piece together a last minute ~3 night trip for November or December. We would be happy staying at a number of places. I haven’t had luck with member services since things are obviously very booked at this late date, but I have been seeing single nights pop up here and there for weekends we’d be interested in.

We have a December use year and our 2020 points are already banked into 2021. If I start picking up single nights for a December 2021 trip as I see them, but am not ultimately able to string together the 3 nights we are hoping for, is it correct I can cancel outside 31 days without running into issues of holding/points expiring?

I am assuming since we already banked our 2020 points, it’d be risky to start picking up November nights since if we couldn’t put together a full trip and wanted to cancel, those points would still expire 11/30/21 since they were borrowed - but please correct me if I am wrong on that.
Thanks!!

As long as anything is canceled 31 days or more, there won’t be any drawback for days in December.

You definitely do not want to borrow for November unless you will go with only one night booked.

Also, if you do find days in December and then something shows up for less points within 31 days, any freed up points go into holding so be aware of that as well.

Yes, as long as you cancel 31 days out points go back to original place/contract as long as you haven’t borrowed. If you borrow next year’s points to get those November nights they remain borrowed even after you cancel. I wouldn’t book November unless you are sure. Good luck. FYI if you get the single nights you want and they are at the same resort with same room, member services can make it into one reservation for you.
