Ugh. I have yet to understand the purpose of making a food "healthy" by changing the bread. Trust me, if I were going to eat healthy, it would not be a whole wheat bun that's holding a hotdog.
Thanks so much for the congratulations. Hubs and I are cautiously optimistic. We're not "out" to anyone "in real life" yet except our families. Hopefully all continues to go well.

I agree with some of the other DISer's B. This was one of the funniest reviews I've read. :rotfl2:

I read Chuck your Wynonna comment and he just had to stick around for more Bendy. Thanks for the Saturday night laughs! :lmao:

Oh dear. Not sure what else to say. And hope you didn't jinx us by saying they haven't messed up the fries "yet." I hope that day never comes!

I hope I didn't jinx us either. My suspicion is that they will do away with the processed cheese goo or start charging for it and move it behind the counter.

Funny as usual Bendy! Isn't it a shame that they took one of our fave places for a really good dog and reduced it so.:sad2:

Thanks Kat! They are the suckiest sucks that ever sucked. Those dogs are no more gourmet than my mom is! We will miss our annual visit to Casey's - there have never really been many places that we care to eat at the MK and now there's one less.

Why do places always ruin a good thing? I mean, come on. White buns are not expensive what so ever and wouldn't an all beef hot dog be better for you than a mystery meat hot dog with fillers and preservatives? I prefer to think so.

We've been scratching our heads too. And although we've never been under any illusions as to the non-nutritional value of a hot dog, all-beef dogs definitely taste better.

I'm with you - why try to make something intrisically unhealthy "healthy." Anyone at the MK who is looking for a healthy meal isn't going to be buying food at Casey's in the first place. The healthiest place I can think of off the top of my head is Columbia Harbor House ... they serve a great tuna sandwedge and I've heard their hummus sandwedge is tasty, too.

Best wishes to you and your hubby - I hope everything stays perfect! :goodvibes

Thanks Nancy - it was supposed to be funny so I'm glad everyone has gotten a laugh out of it. It is just a hot dog after all ... even though we will miss the tradition we'd established of stopping there on each trip. :sad2:

I hate that Disney Dining Dictator. He is RUINING foodie vacations for ALL!! :sad2: ICK and double :crazy2:SUPER ick on that dee-scusss-ting hot dog facsimile of yours. Pretty soon we're all gonna be brown- baggin it to the parks. The DDD needs to go DOWN!!

Did anyone at the table get this? I would love to see what it looked like!

Was it as good as, or better than, Palo?

We could see our server at other tables, which he seemed to visit far more frequently than ours, and wondered what we'd done to make our "cousin" dis-own us.

Perhaps it was because you were not perky enough? :confused3 :rotfl:

I can't believe they let that bacon out of the kitchen; it looks awful!

Ok, a little more catching up to do.

Denise

I like ducks ... I like feeding ducks ... and I like eating their fatty livers seared and served over warm apples or french toast.

:lmao:

We do not need or want the fanatical "we know what's best for you" nutrition brigades messing with our vacation junk food.

Amen! :woohoo: I can make my own decisions, thankyouverymuch!

I don't think he likes food or drink very much ... I think he may be an actuary or an accoutant because it seems like all of his decisions are cost based. While I understand that to a point, it's a shame to see that much of the creativity has been squeezed out of the Disney dining experience (and in this point I'm not talking about hot dogs or burgers or buns, but the table service experience). Oh well ... it is what it is. :sad2:

My dinner was fabulous! I think Chelsi might have ordered that dessert ... look for Kabuki's October 2009 dining thread to check for sure. And it's been too long since I've had Palo's chocolate souffle for me to answer that question ... but I'm sure it was at least as good as that one.

I can't be perky ... it's not part of my genetic make up! :rotfl2: And the bacon was horrid!

Thanks for reading Denise!!

Boy I'm glad I didn't stop at Casey's. I think if I'm jonesing for a hot dog, I'll stick around here and get a Superdawg. Those are the real deal and in my neck o' the woods.

eeek...i hate bad hot dogs. well i hate any bad food..but hot dogs are such a rare treat, you always hope they are "worth it"..and for a hot dog joint, wouldn't they WANT to serve good ones??? Yet another WDW food mystery..........

They are NOT serving kosher beef hot dogs???? :scared1:

Coming from a family of ranchers, I doth protest. We raise some fine cattle and some fabulous wheat! You can make a fantastic wheat bun that does not resemble sawdust. I mean fine, make the menus smaller, take away some tasty desserts, remove the condiment bars, but keep the fine American all-beef hot dog and treat our home grown wheat with some respect!

Notice the craptacular bun???

Dare I say it...yes...even the bun is a lie (oh, OK, it's Disney - a fantasy). If it's white, it ain't whole wheat.

surely one of the Dining Dictator's soulless minions recognizes that they are losing money daily, dare I suggest hourly, with every vigorous guest pump of the complimentary "cheese" dispenser?

How can they lose money on a cheaper bun, no meat havin', 6 inch footlong that's $6.50? If we want bad food we can go over to Universal.

Yeah ... I guess we'll just keep the dawgs for an at-home summertime indulgence.

Amen sistah! I do not understand. And you will never convince me that these are gourmet dogs ... not a chance!

Sing it!!! I don't understand the decisions they make anymore ... I really don't. But then again ... I don't understand the decisions my employer makes either so maybe my brain isn't working anymore. ;)

I couldn't agree more!!! lol

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed my poking fun ... couldn't help it!

You're right of course ... that's not really a whole wheat bun but since that's what they call it I thought I would play by their rules for a change.

And ... we haven't eaten food inside the park at USO, but we've had great food at Citywalk, Royal Pacific, and Portofino Bay.

Monday, October 19th - Culinary Demo Featuring The Wave; You Don't Win Friends with Salad!!!

This was a last minute addition to our culinary deminar lineup. I'd really wanted to book the signature dinner that the Wave was holding during the F&W Festival but like so many other over-priced and tasty events, it was sold out by the time I got through on my 48th phone call after that Sleestak CM disconnected me at exactly 6:01AM on the morning of August 11, 2009. Not that I'm bitter or still upset about that ... "unfortunate incident" as I refer to it in polite society.

Anyway ... since we couldn't attend the special dinner I thought it might be nice to check out a culinary demo being led by The Wave's head chef so that we could get a taste of the restaurant's cuisine. As we made our way through Epcot over to the Welcome Center I forced Jay into Mouse Gear ... the weather was still pretty darn chilly and I was determined to use it as an excuse to buy something cute that had caught my eye the day before. And the CM was nice enough to cut the tags so that I could wear it around the park and serve as a walking advertisement to encourage guests to buy more Disney apparel. I did get a lot of compliments on it - it's soooo cute! You wanna see??

We had a wee bit of extra time to kill before our deminar started and needed to wash the awful taste of Casey's travesty of a hotdog from our mouths, so we took a quick detour over to the Puerto Rico food booth for some Chicken with Rice and a Bacardi Frozen Mojito. We were a little disappointed in the food options from Puerto Rico this year ... we didn't try the ham croquettes because they looked like tater tots served with a side order of thousand island dressing while the chicken and rice reminded me of the Rice-A-Roni Spanish Rice with mystery protein thrown in for chew factor that Grimace used to make for dinner every Thursday night. BLECH! Thank Gawd for booze because that frozen mojito was fabulous! And if there was a silver lining to the cloud that was unseasonably cold weather, it was that our frozen mojito didn't melt in five minutes like it did last year!

As we made our way back to the Festival Welcome Center we ran into TigerKat and her hubby - they were going to the same deminar as were Shovan and her hubby! Woohoo ... a table full of friendies guarantees a good time! There was a fair crowd for this deminar which I thought was a little surprising for a Monday afternoon, but it was nice to see a good turnout. Before I get to the details of the event, allow me to share a couple of pics with you ... first up TigerKat and her hubby. Kathy was such a trooper - bless her heart if she didn't end up having at least one root canal after arriving in Orlando that weekend and for some reason I think she may have actually had two. :scared1:

A table full of troublemakers ...

So, what was on the menu from our friends at The Wave; a restaurant that specializes in local, organic ingredients and has only been open for about 18 months?

Salad.

For a moment I thought it was a joke.

Salad?

That's what you're going to make to showcase your talents as a chef and to tempt potential patrons into your establishment?

Dude ... this had better be the best freaking salad I've never eaten.

Before the salad tossing began ... :rotfl2::rotfl2: ... sorry, it's a private joke between Jay and me ... we were given our thimble of wine - this time a Los Carneros Pinot Noir from La Crema Winery. There isn't much for me to say ... La Crema makes some tasty wines and the drop that we all received was good enough to make us think about buying some once we got home to Stinktown. And we had to show TigerKat and Shovan the drink/coin comparison that ImprovGal has made famous.

Wine to quarter comparison...

It works with a dime, too!

The best part of this deminar, other than attending it with our friends, was the name of the chef. The recipe shows that his name is Dylan Schauwecker so imagine our surprise when Pam introduced him as DY-LON. At first we thought it was a mistake but she made a point of calling him DY-LON several times throughout the event, which led to much snickering by Jay and me because all we could think about was a Dave Chappelle skit where a rapper named Dylan (pronounced DY-LON) was going on about the five best rappers in history.

"Who are the five greatest rappers of all time? Think about it: Dylan, Dylan ... Dylan, Dylan, and Dylan! Cause I spits hot fire!"

So of course each time Pam called the chef DY-LON, Jay and I started giggling and whispering to each other, "My name is DY-LON and I spit hot fiyah!"

:rotfl2:

Ahem.

Would you like to know about the salad that Chef DY-LON slaved to prepare for us? It was a Granny Smith Apple and Pear Salad with a Port Wine Vinaigrette. It looked nice and it did come with some generous shavings of Midnight Moon cheese which I adore, but I can't really eat much in the way of salad. And in the case of this salad I could only really eat the fruit and the cheese because it was crawling with pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries - two foods what really upset my Crohn goblin.

It was a decent portion size, it tasted fine, and everyone seemed to enjoy it, but I just thought it was the easy thing for Chef DY-LON to prepare. As someone who's yet to dine at the Wave I can't say this dish makes me all that anxious to hurry up and see what else he's making in the kitchen - I wanted to be wowed and instead I was just bored. Homer Simpson was right: You don't win friends with salad! :lmao:

Salad.

Yeah, he made a salad.

I love salad, and that looks very tasty, but salad for a demo?!?!?! What, was DY-LON a last minute addition when someone else who was actually going to cook cancelled? Dude, I would so demand my $8 bucks back!

I am as surprised as you all were that the chef "prepared" a salad. I could have done that in my kitchen, dumping most of the ingredients out of bags! But the company around your table made it all worth while. :)

Oh, I would have been very disappointed to get a salad at a culinary demo:sad2:. I like a good salad, sure, but that's not my idea of a special kind of dish. And I really don't go to WDW to overdose on health food!;) Which leads us to the crappy "healthy" buns. What are they thinking?? Against better judgment (and wooed by the idea of a boozy milkshake) I let the family lead me to Sci Fi for lunch, and I ordered a burger. Big mistake. That was the crappiest bun I've ever had. I can't even tell you if the burger was any good; the bun ruined the whole thing for me. Thank goodness for my boozy milkshake and onion rings!!:thumbsup2

Love the mouse gear! One benefit of cooler weather -- an excuse for some new apparel featuring the Mouse!
