As much as I had been going on and on about wanting to try the Lapu Lapu I wonked out - I'm not a big fan of pineapple and since Jay wasn't interested in booze I didn't want to take a chance on ordering something that I actually might not like. So I opted for the Captain's Mai Tai ...

I'm sorry, did you say "Jay wasn't interested in booze"??????
Why am I subscribed to this thread????? :lmao:

Glad you liked the sushi but I skipped over the review. I prefer my fish well done and my beef still mooing. Must be something in my blood (family joke - ranchers and all).

We now interrupt this post with a random editorial from your addlepated author; the opinions, beliefs, viewpoints, tantrum-throwing, and childish name calling expressed by the author do not necessarily reflect the thoughts and opinions of anyone unfortunate enough to be acquainted with said author ... unless they've had lots of booze.

Yo, Disney-Food Arbiters! What up with all the craptacular decisions you cartilage heads been making for the last three years??? First you pare down and homogenize the restaurant menus; then you standardize the cocktail menus; then you turn Pleasure Island into a dead zone that even zombies wouldn't want to visit; and now you close down all the resort restaurant kitchens at 10PM??? You think people don't get hungry in the late evening hours? You don't think they might want something a little more tasty than a cardboard wheel disguised as a pizza or a kangaroo patty with cheese? We want service ... with plates, glasses, silverware napkins, and a menu until midnight. If it can be done in Stinktown then surely it can be done at the WDW resort. Now hop to it, or next time we're going to Las Vegas for their food and wine festival!

I second that emotion Bendy. It was kind of awkward actually, cause my "first time visitor" sister totally coud not see why I had been raving about Disney food in previous years (as we're both foodies) and I found as was saying a lot of the same things as you did above by way of explanation.

BTW, if you love sushi then you must come to Vancouver as we have some of the best and cheapest places here. I have it for lunch most days because it's good and it's not expensive.

Love the shout out to the Disney food arbiters. Amen, sister!

You can buy the tiki god glasses???? Really? I've never been to the Poly but am thinking I need to make a visit!

Jay wasn't interested in booze that night?? :faint:

Looking forward to more!! popcorn::

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. That sushi looks so good, some tuna sashimi would hit the spot right now. Too bad I'm at work and have a stinky lean cuisine for lunch. :sad2:

We're having dinner at the California Grill in December and I plan to get sushi there since we have the DxDDP, but if there is a night in the MK where I'm not feeling a burger, I'll definitely go to the Poly for some sushi. Those volcano rolls look H-U-G-E. :yay:

I had a crappy ham sandwich with carrot sticks for lunch so I feel your pain.

We ordered Yoshi's platter when we dined at CA Grill later on our trip and IT WAS AMAZING!! But Kona is good snackie alternative. :thumbsup2

Well.. I must say, that definitely reflects my opinions!! :lmao:

Glad I could articulate for you! :rotfl2:

Volcano Roll, Nigiri, but no Fugu?? What's up with that??

(I also would have hoped to see the squid platter, with extra tentacles....)

Not enough variety at Kona to roll with the fugu, but you will be pleased to know that while we were at CA Grill enjoying sushi there we did go with a "poison; poison; tasty fish!" :lmao:

And I know somewhere on this trip the squid platter was referenced ... I think it was Flying Fish - stay tuned!

PS. How was your trip and were you able to get the littleneck clam flatbread from Muppet Man's establishment?

I'm sorry, did you say "Jay wasn't interested in booze"??????

I know ... but sometimes we hit our limits and he's not a big drinker on travel days. It was so humid that all either of us really wanted was water but I felt that I owed it to future generations to try something alcoholic at the Polynesian. :rotfl2:

Glad you liked the sushi but I skipped over the review. I prefer my fish well done and my beef still mooing. Must be something in my blood (family joke - ranchers and all).

No problem about fish ... I didn't used to like mine undercooked either. You know what ... we tried beef carpaccio on this trip and now we like our beef and fish undercooked! :rotfl2:

I draw the line there, however. There is no room in my digestive tract for undercooked pork or chicken.

I read some of your reviews from your F&W trip with your sister and I really felt kind of bad for you - it's hard to get to WDW with other people after you've raved about the dining only to have it fall flat ... especially in your case since you're both real foodies.

I have Vancouver on the list of foodie cities for Jay and me to visit ... you're going to be the first person I tell when we know we're actually headed that way! :thumbsup2

Thanks for taking the time to read - I know you've been crazy-busy lately. :goodvibes

Thanks for reading Christine! If so many of us feel the same way about the food issues at Disney then why aren't they listening us? I wonder if they think we're just a bunch of hungry cranks? :lmao:

As for the glasses - I have not seen them for sale because I always forget to go looking for them but I have been told that they are available for purchase. Are they the coolest thing ever or what?

As for the booze ... let's just say that Jay made up for it at the Bluezoo dinner on the 16th. ;)

Please please please tell me you got a picture. I have been searching all over the DIS and I can't find one. I'm interested to know what comes on it, if it's big enough for an entree and if you can customize it at all (i.e. they'd usually put a variety of nigri and pretend I don't like salmon, can I have them skip the salmon and use maybe tuna and himachi instead or something, KWIM?)

I can't wait to read that part of your reviews. Hopefully it's up before we leave in December. If not, feel free to PM me a picture and all of the information you may have ;) :thumbsup2

I do have a picture it's just not in photobucket yet. We didn't customize ours - just went with what the chef was feeling that night. It was huge ... inlcuded nigiri, sashimi, and some samples of rolls. I think if only one person is eating it then Yoshi's platter is definitely large enough for an entree ... there was a lot of fish on that platter.

I do know that if you don't like something (salmon) all you have to do is tell your server you want to substitute something else - we did have tuna and hamachi along with the salmon ... I think there was some eel too. I'll try to get you something this weekend that you can take a look at.

It was AMAZING! I know I keep saying that but all the other adjectives that come to mind include words that are going to be blocked by the DIS. :lmao:
Perhaps I should leave it at this: Yoshi's Sushi Sampler was a profane delight. :rotfl2:

Hiya, Bendy Girl! Sushi is not my thing, but it sure was purty.:goodvibes

The desserts looked mighty fine as well. We've had people stand in front of us before for a daytime show, after we had been sitting and waiting for 30 minutes, along with a lot of other tired folks. Rob had no problem speaking to the "offenders" but I was red as a beet. It worked; they moved and the people sitting around us thanked him and few clapped.:rotfl:

Sistah P!!! :cool1: Thanks for stopping by to read ... so happy to have you here!

I try to be polite ... I get that that people all want to "see" but I don't think it's right to do it at the expense of someone else. I like to think that most people just get caught up in the excitement, but unfortunately there are also a lot of jerks who visit WDW, too. Those are the people that I hope find Pixie turds under their hotel pillows when they return to their resorts! :lmao:

Very good to know. I love tuna, salmon, white tuna, yellowfin and hamachi, but the eel---that's probably something I'd ask not to have. No sweat on the picture, I have to wait to see it just like everyone else---it's only fair!!

Profane delight, that's a good enough description for me! :thumbsup2

I really don't mind getting you some pics in advance - that meal didn't take place until our 9th night of vacation and it's going to be a while before I post it. I am constitutionally unable to write food reviews out of chronological order ... it helps me remember what was going on at the time. It's a character flaw but I'm comfortable with that. :lmao:

Just catching up! Glad you enjoyed the dessert party. We did this in August and we must have had the same seats as you -- Tinkerbell flew right over our heads -- fortunately we did not experience any of the rude people standing in front of our table:rolleyes1 I agree, it was a fun thing to do once but I'm not sure I need to do it again soon.

I am so not a sushi person but it always looks so pretty that I wish I was. Looks like you had a good meal at Kona though. And love the tiki god glasses -- now I want them too! I might have to make a trip over to the Poly on my next trip!

Hiya Robin! Thanks for coming by to take a read. Couldn't agree with you more about the party ... good to do once but not sure it's worth a repeat unless it's a really special occasion.

The sushi was very good and we had a good time catching up with Lori.

Everyone wants a tiki god glass! It's going to be the most popular holiday gift of 2009! :rotfl2:

The sushi bar is a great addition for the Poly, and it is fabulous that you can order off the Kona menu. It provides a walk up option that I really appreciated on my last trip. On a MNSSHP night I was starving just before the party and didn't want a CS meal at MK, so I got take-out Nigiri and took it to the MK where I ate it while sitting on Main Street - nice fishy picnic!

I agree that the dessert party is a once or a once in a while thing. I had a great time, had that same perfect table that you did, and loved seeing both Spectro and the fireworks while eating dessert item after dessert item, but don't crave going back and doing it again right away. It would be a fun ready made party location for a celebration of some kind.

Thursday, October 15th - Breakfast at Kouzzina: It's Weird and Scary and the Sangria is the Wrong Color...

What is the deal with this specific location on the Boardwalk? First there was Spoodles, which, depending on the quality of the food received by guests on any given day, was either a reference to funky, slotted spoons or a type of hybrid dog also known as a Cockapoo. And now there is Kouzzina, which helpful people all the world over tell us is Greek for the word "kitchen."

Now that I think about about, I guess Kouzzina does sound more appealing than a big ol' sign that reads KITCHEN. :lmao: If it had been my decision to make ... and we all know it wasn't ... and I was drawing on my Greek background ... which we all know I don't have ... I would have named the restaurant Opa! It doesn't really mean anything but people sure love to shout it at each other, especially when they've had too much to drink.

Jay and I decided to play this reservation by ear depending on how early we managed to get of bed on Thursday morning. Since we'd had a late night we wanted to sleep until our bodies told us to get our lazy butts out of bed, but luckily I was thinking when I made the ADR and we didn't have to be there until 9:15. Even better - we were staying at the Beach Club Villas so we were only a five minute walk from the restaurant.

Sleeping in and still making our ADR?

Now that's what I call living the life!

When we arrived, shortly after nine that morning, Kouzzina was not busy - maybe one-third full, if that. We were seated immediately at a great little table that looked directly out over the Boardwalk. Our first goal was to get some caffeine so we placed an order for the Kouzzina press pot of coffee, which is supposed to be a signature blend only available at Cat's place.

The coffee wasn't bad, but not as flavorful as I expected it to be. It was served in a sleek, aerodynamic press pot with burnished stainless steel trim; I suspect these are easier to clean than the more traditional French presses being used at other resorts so Disney can finally say goodbye to all those embarrassing hard water spots. ;)

After much hemming and hawing I decided to take our friendie Elin's advice and order a glass of Kouzzina's Sunrise Sparkling Sangria. I was concerned that it might be overly sweet but this was a truly delicious and refreshing breakfast booze: sparkling Greek white wine mixed with fruit juice and apple brandy, if my tastebuds can be trusted, garnished with green apple slices and mint. It was excellent and I highly recommend giving it a try if you enjoy a drink with your breakfast. If the day had been cooler we might have ordered a whole pitcher of the stuff!

Good morning sunshine!

Jay ordered the Stacked Kouzzina Breakfast for his first meal of the day. It included two Poached Eggs, Kalamata Olive Toast, Artichoke Spread, and Sweet Potato Hash with a choice of Bacon or Chicken Sausage. In terms of presentation and taste Jay won this round easily - it wasn't even a close fight. He enjoyed everything about his choice and thought it was very flavorful; he gave extra kudos to the Sweet Potato Hash which was perfectly cooked and seasoned.

The clear breakfast winner ...

On a different morning I would have tried the french toast but it was so warm and humid that I thought it would be better to avoid sweet and heavy and stick with traditional and relatively healthy. So I chose the Spinach, Tomato, and Feta Scrambled Eggs - served with Breakfast Potatoes and a choice of Bacon or Chicken Sausage. It also came with a surprise english muffin, and I don't mean that it was a good surprise.

The obvious loser ...

We make spinach / feta scrambles at home all the time and they're tasty and nutritious. Apparently at Kouzzina they don't like guests who choose non-Greek breakfast items and my liquid chicken scrambles were gacky, the muffin was cold and dry, the taters were just plain bad, and the bacon was a limp affront to every delicious pig it's been my pleasure to eat over the span of my lifetime. I have a nasty suspicion that the bacon was microwavable and that's wrong on so many levels that I don't even know where to begin listing them.

I picked at the food but didn't finish much of anything ... told the waiter I wasn't crazy about the food and ended up with a second ... free ... press pot of coffee once I made it clear that I didn't want any more food. In retrospect I wish I had ordered the fruit plate with a basket of pastries ... it's hard to screw something like that up although it can be done.

I am definitely on the fence about Kouzzina - we had good service and the white sangria was a lovely surprise, but my breakfast was just plain bad. I realize that I could have just been unlucky but I ordered one of the easiest items to prepare from the menu so I'm not inclined to be too forgiving. Jay's breakfast, on the other hand, was outstanding in every regard.

So, whatever am I to tell you?

I won't recommend Kouzzina but I won't warn anyone away, either. If you think the menu sounds tasty then make an ADR and try it on for size. I'd say you have a 50/50 chance of having a great meal or a crappy one! :lmao:

Hrmmmmmmmmm. The more reviews I read, the more torn I get. We will be at the Boardwalk Villas in December with Deluxe Dining, so I made a breakfast ADR for our last day in The World. I was planning on getting the french toast, not the feta scrambled eggs---so maybe I'll have better luck.

That drink looks yummmmmy. I guess if all else fails and the food isn't so great, I can just drink. We are on vacation, after all. :thumbsup2

OH! I loved the Stacked breakfast!!!
You told us to get the Sangria and we failed the mission BUT we can be rebuilt! Next time WE WILL! :rotfl:

That was a sad English Muffin! Do they not have a toast setting in Greece? and if you are in a Greek Restaurant wouldn't it be a Greek Muffin? How do you mess up a an English Muffin?! Do they not know the nooks and crannies need to be crunchy??? Maybe they let Todd English Cook The English Muffin and He messed it up.. he wanted the bronze and jumped in instead of the muffin?! He had nook and crannies envy! That is my story and I'm sticking to it!

I'm so sorry your breakfast was a bummer. I ordered the stacked breakfast, like Jay did, and absolutely loved it.:lovestruc I came away from Kouzzina with a great impression, so guess it really does matter what you order. Thieir signature coffee blend is only ok, like you said. I prefer a bolder coffee. Did you get to go there for dinner? I'm curious what that would be like.

That sangria looks wonderful btw!

Sorry about your Kouzzina experience!
It looks like Tom and I have been some of the few lucky ones who had excellent food there! :goodvibes We went for dinner before it officially opened and our meal was excellent! ........... and the sangria was the right colour! :lmao:
