Count me in...I LOVE your reports and just in time before our December trip...I may see something extra special that I want to try!! :woohoo:

Welcome and thanks for reading! I'll try to get some more stuff posted so that our experience can be of some use.

Looks so good! I might be getting that in December...unless the fond memories of my banana split are too much for me to handle!

Get what you like best - that's the only way to go. :thumbsup2

Great start, can't wait for more (glad to hear that you are doing well enough to post something!

Thanks for very much - hoping to have another brief update posted later this evening.

I still haven't made it to Beaches & Cream. I should work on that...

You should definitely pay them a visit before they eliminate sundae glasses and serving goblets altogether. ;)

And definitely get there before they just start plopping scoops of ice cream directly into the customers' cupped palms.

These cost-saving measures are getting out of control! ;)

Wednesday, October 14th - It's a Surprise ... Sort Of; Now Let's Go Have a Drink!

Luckily while we were finishing No Way Jose not in a soup bowl, Jay received a text from the BCV that our room was ready. This made me very happy – I cannot relax at WDW until we have checked in and unpacked. Then, and only then, am I truly able to feast and frolic like a pig wallowing in mud after a particularly fine bucket of slops.

We’ve stayed in many different areas of the BCV over the years and while all the rooms are homey and comfy, some locations are definitely better than others. Upon first inspection our 1-bedroom villa appeared to be a prime spot overlooking Epcot Resorts Boulevard - there were lots of trees and we had a fine view of Spaceship Earth in the distance.

Unfortunately the balcony furniture was suffering from a severe case of Florida black mold and who really wants to sit on their balcony and listen to the drone of passing traffic and inhale exhaust fumes while sipping chilled wine?

Not us.

We prefer the delightful and romantic symphony that is late-night road construction.

These were my only issues, for lack of a better word, with our villa. The room itself was in fine condition and other than a few lightbulbs that needed to be replaced we were well pleased. We also had what appeared to be a lifetime's supply of towels which always makes me happy.

As we were unpacking and getting ourselves organized there was a knock on the door.

OOOOOOOHHHH!

I know what this must be!

Giving in to the spendy-bendy impulse that I grapple with on a daily basis, I had ordered Jay and me a little sumpin-sumpin from the Walt Disney World Florist. They didn’t make it easy this year … the number of items offered that are worth the money has dwindled considerably since I first started making a habit of surprising the hubba on our annual WDW vacations. Luckily I was able to get my hands on the DVC wine and cheese basket along with an additional item called Sweet on You.

DVC Welcome Home
9.jpg

Sweet on us!!
10.jpg

The DVC basket included a bottle of chardonnay, a Mickey-head wine stopper, two cheese spreads, some herbed crackers, and some apples. At one time I think it also included wine glasses etched with Mickey-heads but there weren't any in our basket. Jay and I agree it was probably for the best ... those glasses do not enhance the taste of any wine, not even dandelion wine.

The Sweet on You which was included in the basket is a Mickey-head shaped milk chocolate candy box filled with white, milk, and dark chocolates. The chocolates were also shaped like Mickey's head and each had a special message like "dream" or "wish" or "magic" written on it. We enjoyed the whimsy of this little treat and thought it was surprisingly tasty, too.

Once all the business of unpacking was complete it was time for Jay and me to head over to Epcot and get our DVC annual passes and Twit card (formerly known as the DDE). Tremble in fear F&W Festival, Jay and Bendy have returned to do battle once more!!

Since it was such a warm, humid afternoon, Jay and I weren't interested in eating anything from the kiosks. We also had reservations later in the evening for the dessert party at the Magic Kingdom and wanted to save some room to enjoy that, so naturally we ended up in Mexico in order to pay a visit to the Tequila Ditch, aptly christened by TDC Nala. :thumbsup2

The place wasn't crowded at all so we pulled up a table and immediately placed an order for two margaritas and some crab tostadas.

Duranzo Margarita
16.jpg

I ordered the Duranzo - Blanco Tequila, St. Germain Liqueur, peach nectar, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar served on the rocks with a cactus-lemongrass salt rim ($11.50). We make St. Germain margaritas at home, but not nearly as good as this one. It was light and refreshing and not very sweet at all, which made me very happy.

Jalapeno y Limon Margarita
15.jpg

Jay ordered the spicy jalapeno margarita which was made with Blanco Tequila, jalapeno-lime juice, agave nectar, and fresh lime juice served on the rocks with an hibiscus Himalayan salt rim ($12.50). Jay enjoyed this very much since he likes spicy foods and drinks. I took a taste of it and thought it was like drinking salsa ... ick ... but the hubby was happy so that's all that mattered.

We've found our home away from home away from home!

And to help soak up some of the alcohol, because these margaritas packed a punch, we split an order of Tostadas de Jaiba - seasoned blue crab meat tostadas with chipotle mayo and valentina sauce ($11).

We thought these were terrific! A liberal helping of shredded crab meat sprinkled over spicy (but not too spicy) mayo and crowned with some avocado and greenery. YUMMMMMM! Jay and I liked them so much and thought they paired so well with the drinks that we ordered more on another visit later in our trip.

Our first impression of the Tequila Cave was highly favorable. It's a great and long-needed addition to the Mexico pavilion and judging by the crowds we saw there over our 10-day visit it's very popular with everyone, even the pre-school crowd. If you need a solid foundation on which to construct your day and/or evening of drunken Epcot debauchery, consider stopping at the Ditch. The drinks are strong, the snacks are tasty, and the boozers are a friendly, welcoming bunch!

Le Cava de Tequila earns our highest rating - Alcoholc Nirvana ala' Ren & Stimpy:

LOL! Sorry you got the road construction view. ;)

I really liked my covered awning view of the pool and canal. :goodvibes
No pics of the room surprise o' goodies?

It's been fixed - the laptop farted while I was trying to post and that's why only part of it showed up initially. Come back and finish!

:rotfl2:

That's what Jay and I said, too! :lmao:

Ok, I see the pictures now! And yes, the Ditch became my home away from home, too. And you got the Frida Kahlo unibrow chair! :rotfl2: I haven't tried your margarita yet, but I have tried Jay's and enjoyed it. If you want more heat, you can ask for it. Memo to Jay only, of course.

I liked the crab tostadas, but the shrimp ceviche was amazing. That's my favorite item there.

Hey Brenda, so far so good! I can't wait til you post more pics from the Dismeet.:) That cake looked terrific. I hope you're starting to feel better.

The Unibrow chair made me think of Canadian beer. ;)

I did mention something to Jay about being able to request extra spice in his drink but he was content to leave it alone. We also liked the shrimp ceviche, but I preferred the crabbie tostadas.

Hi Debbie! Thanks for reading. :goodvibes Sure wish you'd been able to join us at the meet on the 17th - it was a good time.

And I sound like a broken record ... don't feel better but don't feel worse, either. Thanks for asking!

I have the Ditch at the top of the agenda for January!:thumbsup2 It looks fabulous! I can definitely see DH loving that spicy jalapeno margarita. Can't think of a better start to the trip than ice cream and margaritas :goodvibes, though I'm sorry about the missing goblet on the No Way Jose. I agree it loses a little something there. Looking forward to more!:woohoo:

Wow, what a great update! We tried to get into the Ditch in early Oct but every time I popped my head in there the line was crazy long and all the tables were taken...oh well there is always next time...please tell me you were able to get back there for more drinks!

Hi Lori! It was a great way to start the evening and the vacation. Actually now that I think about what we ate on that first day I'm a little surprised my gut worm didn't freak out. Ice cream ... margaritas ... dessert party ... sushi. :scared1:

Thanks for reading - it's always good to hear from you! :goodvibes

Oh Nicki ... next time just shove your way in. :rotfl2: You simply must pay them a visit - it's a terrific little spot. And yes, we did go back more than once. Would you expect anything less? :rolleyes1

I wish the Ditch wasn't as crowded on Saturday! I absolutely loved the Blood Organge Margarita...I lust for it and it's only 9:30am!

Mmmmmmm---The Ditch looks fantastic. We had planned on eating at San Angel inn like usual during our December trip, but after reading TDC Nala's reviews we decided to wing it and try to get a table at The Ditch. DH is a huge fan of margaritas and I thought the tostadas and guacamole looked and sounded great. Hopefully we can get a seat!

Can't wait to hear more!! :hyper:

The Ditch! Can we go now please and yes, I do realise it is 8:30 am my time and I don't care!:rotfl2:

If you tried to get in there on the 17th then I can only imagine how busy it must have been since Epcot was packed that day. Jason tried the blood orange margarita on a different visit and he really liked it (I don't care for oranges so it didn't do much for me).

Both times when we actually popped in to the Ditch it was during the week ... once around 5PM and the other around 1:30PM ... we had no trouble getting a table. As long as you're not trying for a weekend I think you'll have a decent shot. It's a fun place - I'm sure you'll love it!

Hiya Chelsi!

It's 10:30 here and I'd go for a margarita if I could ... purely for medicinal purposes, of course. ;)

YOU STARTED!

Hi, Brenda - sorry you aren't feeling better, but very happy you are well enough to write...

Frankly, it sucks about the "no way jose", but it seems you found a work around - always good...

I love your reviews, and will be reading...

Jaime

Hey Brenda!! New to posting but not new to your reports! So glad you're doing another DR! Hope you're feeling better!!

You are the sole reason DH and I tried Jiko last trip and we are so glad we did!!!! It was the best meal we had that trip and are booked again for next time!!

That No Way Jose still tempts me, no matter the size!! Looks so yummy! We didn't make it over to Beaches N Cream last time, but had something similar at Ghiradelli's, their version of a chocolate and peanut butter ice cream sundae. Have you had that one? Does it compare? Trying to convince DH that it's worth going out of our way for the No Way Jose!!

Can't wait to read the rest!! :thumbsup2

Hey there Mrs. Spratt! Thanks for reading and posting - glad to have you here and I hope that as I start to feel better the reviews will get better, too.

Hi there and thanks for taking the time to post (and read!). First of all I'm very glad to hear that you enjoyed Jiko - we've always had great meals and service there and I'm happy your experience was similar. :goodvibes

We have had the Ghiradelli peanut butter / chocolate sundae and still think the No Way Jose is better (especially when served properly). The peanut butter topping is super smooth and creamy - we thought Ghiradelli's was a bit grainy and thick.
