hi. So I know Disney let’s you take pics with your own cameras when you take pictures with the characters, but do they let you use your own camera when they take professional pictures in the evening on the staircase after dinner?

I have not done this exact picture, but I have used my camera for posed shots with the captain and the other times where the photographers set up the screen backgrounds.

I think it may depend on the photographer. For the formal/posed pictures, pictures with backgrounds etc, I did not find that the photographers were amenable to letting us use our own cameras (either us doing it ourselves or them doing it for us). We ended up asking a guest to take a pic for us in our formal wear, but not in front of one of the official backgrounds.

Thanks for sharing this. You are probably right about the photographer.

If they are not amenable to letting you use your own camera, you can pose on the staircase on your own.

Typically, if the photo location is an actual photo set, with a Shutters photographer, the photographer will not use your personal camera to take photos. On occasion, the photographer has a DCL CM assistant, and they will use your camera, however. You can also ask another guest if they would help you out.

I've seen people report that they could not use the formal photo setups for personal photos, but we've never had that issue.
