Hello,

Contemplating a solo trip next year and I'm wondering about pictures. What does everybody do? Memory Maker?

Thank you,
Loretta

While taking a picture with the charaters, just hand your camera to the attendant and they will take the picture.
I find that if you just ask another person to take a picture of you and offer to reciprocate, most will gladly do so as they are looking for someone.

Arrange to meet other solos from the DIS, and take turns taking pictures of each other.

In many areas throughout WDW, look for the nearest cast member who isn't too busy, and ask them to take your picture with your camera.

If you're in a less crowded place, you may be able to set your camera on a surface and use its automatic timer function (for example, to get a picture of yourself in your room).

I don't really like pictures of myself, so I never really thought about it before, I prefer taking pictures of places. But you can give your camera to any of the photopass people and they will gladly take your picture!

Also, on each of my solo trips, I've had fellow park guests offer to take my picture for me without my even having to ask, which is pretty cool :)

i just went on my first solo trip in mid april and i did a number of character meet n greets.
most times i just handed my phone already on the camera app to a character attendant. they were happy to take my pic.
there was one time that only the photographer was with the character so i just asked the woman behind me to take my pic and she was fine doing so.

if you are there for a special occasion - anniversary, baby's first trip, etc - then yes - otherwise don't waste your money

Character m&gs, the CM handlers have always been great about taking pics with my phone/camera - and they have been some of my best pics. Photo pass photogs should also be able to take with your camera if you ask. I had a couple of awesome guests take pics for me this year when no one else was available; one volunteered and one I asked.

For M&G, give camera to the handler. For everything else, I use a combination of Memory Maker/Photopass, flexible tripod, and ask other fellow guests. Sometimes, I'd just look for people who need to take pictures, offer to take their pictures and ask if they'd take mine

No one seems to really be putting in a positive about the Memory Maker so I thought I would:

I had it for my solo trip in Sept and plan on getting it again for my upcoming trip. I really enjoyed it because I got all the ride photos (and you can now get ride videos I believe) and I doubt I would've done any meet and greets without it. Some of the photos by the Disney photographers aren't great (one lot in particular where Pluto and I were dancing and the photographer didn't adjust their shutter speed) but for the most part they were absolutely fine. I wouldn't have got any photos of me on the holiday without it.

I use my own camera for work (it's a big Nikon D800) and I couldn't trust anyone with it especially after I'd already had someone smash into me and damage one of the lenses in the first few days of the trip.

We loved Memory Maker, and I particularly enjoyed it when I was touring solo. I liked not worrying about handing my camera over, as other people seem to have problems with getting it to focus (consistently!)

We got it for our first trip, and even my Scrooge DH could see the value in it. We loved having the ride photos, which we would NEVER have paid for, and we got 300 photos in 7 days. :D We had budgeted for it for next year, but it's a free add-on to our tickets because we booked early, so that's a big win for us, and a loss for Disney as we would have paid for it!!

I agree with the memory maker for similar reasons. Also, since my D7200 is set up for back button AF, I can't exactly hand it to someone and expect them to work it - and even when I turn it off and hand it to someone, they always look at the back screen ... so I carry a decent P&S camera that I can hand to someone and they can easily use (currently Nikon P330). Still, I'm excited and can't wait to use MM.

Just a cute suggestion. If I'm with a character, I give him my camera and whisper "I'd love to have my picture taken with you. Do you think someone would take it?" Most of the time, he just hands it to his handler and motions to take our picture. But a few times the character has run over to a guest with my camera and motioned for them to take our picture. This always makes everyone laugh and creates a memorable experience. It's fun!
