4 Alarm fire last night not far from me.
Of all the photo opportunities, I probably have to say I love to do News type pictures....ok...that and babies...

It's been a LONG time since I have been to a fire and I shot about 100 pictures in the one hour I was at this fire. It was about 7 degrees and I was starting to get a bit too cold. I was very happy with the shots I did get using my new Nikon D60

Here are a few for now...I will download some more.

Wow, those are great! :thumbsup2 Would you mind telling me what settings you used?

Looks like an exciting night. I hope there wasn't too much damage and no one was injured. Your photos are very good. Thank you for sharing them with us.

I actually had it on Auto most without the flash. I took some with the flash but they were too dark. There were enough lights around to increase the shutter speed. I just check out on my camera and on the third picture, the shutter was at 1/13 at F5.3
It's been so long since I have had a NICE camera...for years I have been using point and shoot. I need to get back into doing some manual settings. I am out of practice!!

It was an exciting evening. The house is pretty much toast...although I have not been by today. I will try and go by tomorrow and take a shot.
Other then some FF falling on ice and receiving some bumps and bruises..there were no other injuries.

I am glad you both like them. I will try and post some more this evening.

I really like #2. Good to see what a fellow D60 user is capable of! :thumbsup2

So sad. I'm glad no one was seriously injured, and I sure hope the owners had insurance.

I totally have a thing for firefighters. ;)

 Me too!!!

There is an interesting article in the paper today....the place is now a crime scene. During their investigation, they found some "lab equipment" in the basement! They are not saying right now whether that was the cause of the fire.

If you want to read the article, I have the link on the post with the last picture.

YES...it was about 7 degrees out!! By the time I left...I was there about an hour...my face was so cold it was hard to talk! But worth it for the pictures I got!!

Dismom, very nice photos. I am a news photographer and fires are very neat to photograph, so long as no one gets hurt! I'm going to sharre a few I've shot the last two years:

Thank you so much for sharing your pictures!!
I agree with you, You don't want to see anyone getting hurt. I just love to be there in the middle of the excitement...taking these pictures of the fire as it's happening.... of these brave men and woman battling the fires.

I would actually love to publish a book some day with fire photos...or all on firefighters. SOMEDAY!!

Thanks again for sharing yours. I would love to see any more if you have them!

Bob.....I just read what you wrote again. The first time I read it as you being a NEW photographer....not a NEWS photographer! I would LOVE to have your job! Well not YOURS :lmao: but a job as a news photographer!
I used to have a 35mm Nikon and went to many fires in my hometown. I then went digital however could not afford a decent camera, and have been using a point and shoot for many years. Of course all the departments around have gone digital as well so my scanner is pretty much useless.
I just got a Nikon D60 and this fire was the first time using it other then family type photos.

There was another HUGE 5 alarm fire today here in Nashua and I was at work which I could not get away from. I went after to get aftermath pictures but no fire shots.

Again..I would love to see more of your photos!
