My nephew got an iPod mini and gave me his 30GB video iPod last week. I've put around 2000 pictures on it already. Pretty neat. Is there a way to put pictures on it without the computer? Then get them onto a computer later? Or not use iTunes? I'm not a becoming a big fan of iPod just because it seems more difficult than our regular old mp3 players to add stuff. It only likes one computer- the one you plug it into 1st(unless you erase it and start new). This one I have can't be used with a Mac! Only PC. We have both. Strange system but it was free so.....I won't complain too much;)
It would be neat to be able to upload pictures to it(without a computer) while on vacation as a backup. Anyone know if its possible? And how I'd do it?
Thanks! :)

We have both Mac and PC and use the video iPods on both, you just have to authorize the other computer. It's been a couple of years since I set ours up, but I believe if you plug it in to the other computer it will ask if you want to authorize another computer, just click yes and it will walk you through how to do it.

The only thing it won't do is once you have initialized it with Mac or PC, whichever you hook up to first, it will only let you update (get the latest software update, not update data on it) from the one you started on.

Based on the info you gave about your iPod generation here is the product you are looking for. You just plug it into your iPod's dock connector on the bottom, plug in the camera and it will transfer them. This is a great way to back up photos while on vacation. I have never used but my brother used it plenty when he studied abroad in Europe. Also, you won't have to bring a laptop just for backup and storage.

I'm not sure if this will then put the photos in the proper place for viewing on the iPod but you can certainly transfer them from the iPod to the computer.

A possible solution to your iPod only playing nice with one computer is to turn off the automatic syncing. I believe that is the default setting. You can change it to manual (at least for music, you may stuck with automatic syncing from one computer for photos).

I hope that helped!

COOL! Thanks for the info. I like the idea of being able to back up photos onto it since I don't travel with my laptop. My bet is I'll use it more for photos than music:) I'll be heading to the Apple Store.
