I use Picture Project on my laptop to download pictures from my D50. They go into 'My Picture' file but I can also view them in PP. My question is- are my photos taking up twice as much of my hard drive since they are in both Picture Project and 'My Pictures'? I am very low on hard drive space and just noticed that Picture Project had 14,000+ pictures in it.
Thanks:)

I am not familiar with that program, but it should not be placing the file on your pc twice. It should be reading it from one location. There is a chance that it is using a little space to cache the thumbnails, but it should not be much space. It sounds like you could use a new drive. I saw a 750GB on Newegg this weekend for something like $120. I think there was a 500GB external for $$99.

I ordered one of those 750g $120 drives from NewEgg yesterday. :teeth: 32 meg cache... and a Seagate so a 5-year warranty. This should give me elbow room for at least a month or so. :lmao: Maybe I'll finally have room to empty some DV video, too, and get that onto DVD...

My2girls66, I am also not familiar with that program but I doubt it is saving it in two places (though it might be!) Make sure you're making backups to CD or DVD, and maybe you can start clearing off some older ones that you have backed up.

A second hard drive is not a bad idea, either; if you're running out now, chances are that even if you clean things up, you'll be running out again very soon.

Thanks for the info. I do need to do some serious cleaning. Last night I noticed in Picture Project that it retained all the pictures, 14,000+ but the ones that have been deleted from my hard drive are all white boxes with ? marks- there must be 1000's of white boxes with ?marks:confused3 Adobe Photoshop did the same only different blank boxes:confused3 (which I accidentally deleted everyone of them!) Ooops! I was deleting one by one the blank boxes then decided to highlight them(pictures and blank) all to see how many were there- then when I went back to deleting the blank ones one by one I didn't unselect them all so when I hit delete they all went! It's mostly my DD that uses Photoshop and I'm pretty sure all that stuff was backed up. I hope!
I have a 120GB Seagate and I have moved everything over to it, I'm just always thinking what if something happens to it or what if I missed backing something up. I'm neurotic like that! I double, triple and quadruple check my Seagate before I will delete anything from the computer! I do that with my discs too. I check thru them a few times to double make sure I have stuff backed up to disc. Even then I've noticed I have many duplicate files/folders on the Seagate and on disc. Right now my burner isn't working so in order to burn them on disc I have to go to the Macbook which I know shouldn't be a huge deal since I can use the Seagate thru the Macbook. I just never seem to get around to it. I also have a portable Western Digital 120GB but for some reason it won't let me drag and drop like the Seagate, it does Syncing- in which I check the folders I want to Sync and it copies them over but all the files are in list form- no thumbnails. In order to see what I have on it I have to open each file separately! My Seagate I drag the whole folder over, drop it and I can see exactly whats in it- it looks exactly like 'My Pictures' in windows. I don't know what I did wrong with the WD:confused3
Anyway, thanks! :)
