Anyone have a good picture of the Disney strollers they rent? We were all going to bring our own, but now that they're charging $50 for a second piece of luggage we're thinking of renting. Just concerned whether a 1-year-old or 3-year-old can lay down and sleep comfortably. :smickey:

The strollers are great! You can also get a double stroller which is fun for the kids as long as they dont hit each other hee hee.
The cost is definitely worth it with small kids. They look like running strollers and have a place for bags. The only problem is that you have to leave it when you leave the park so your kids will need to walk from the park to the car or hotel. That can be a drag if they fall asleep.

The same holds true for carseats, however, ours were luggage because we have them in a special wheelie bag.

To avoid being charged as a piece of luggage, take it to the gate with you and "gate check" it. Some airlines will get it to you when you deplane, others will just send it to the baggage claim. We have never had it considered against our total.

Or call the airline.

We have always Gate Checked our stroller. That way we can take it right up to the gate and they will give you a tag to put on it at the gate counter. It's waiting for you when you get off the plan. In the past it has not been considered luggage, nor has our car seat, but of course that is not checking it with baggage claim. We plan on doing the same thing with our upcoming DLR trip.

I dont have a picture but we bring our unbrella strollers with us since they are so small. We use them from the walk from the hotel to the park and then rent DL strollers. We have the Disney Visa so they are free. They are NICE strollers and they push way better than ours do.

PM Bumbershoot, she has good pictures. When I asked this question back in March she posted them.

I agree with Mycutekitties, a great way to go is to bring your cheapie umbrella stroller. Gate check it at the airport. Then use it to get back and forth from the hotel. When you get in DL, rent their strollers. They are very comfy and maneuverable. You can leave your umbrella there at the stroller rental and pick it up again on the way out.

BTW, when using a DL stroller, you will frequently have to park it ouside a ride, often in a sea of identical rental strollers. So bring a bandanna, scarf or ribbon to tie onto your stroller; you'll be able to pick it out instantly from all the others. It also makes it less of a target for people to grab your stroller just because theirs isn't immediately obvious. If yours looks marked and claimed, over and above the nametag they put on the top of the canopy, people are less likely to walk off with it.

we're gate checking our stroller as well. The DL ones look crummy, and I'd rather have something to push an extra kid or suitcase in the airport. It doesn't count as luggage..it's a 'special item' or something like that.

Just found this great article, pics included, on Dland strollers. The article might be a little old, but I'm hoping the pics show the accurate strollers. I was trying to decide between bringing ours (Maclaren!) or taking advantage of the free rental with the Disney Visa. After reading this article I think I've decided to take ours after all. Unless of course these are pics/info on old strollers??

It's been awhile since I've been and I remember the hard blue plastic strollers. So this article appears to be current, anyone know for sure??

The pix in that article look almost right, but not quite. It's odd. The nametag is also not what they were using last December (or Oct of '06 or Sept of '05), but since I think that author's kids are much older than the munchkin shown, it's probably just an old article.

December, bad angle but it's the best I got that trip.

DS was 40+ inches and just about 40 lbs.

October '06, DS could go on Matterhorn and was still rear-facing in his carseat, so over 35 inches, under 33 lbs.

And when DS was 16 months old, he was in the stroller once, and then we got to IASW so he got out and never got back in, LOL. this was before we had something stolen from a stroller so we weren't vigilant about not leaving things in the stroller, so it got use by hauling and storing our stuff.

This is just the back, obviously.

We've been MUCH happier bringing our own. Last Sept we drove, so we had our own, and in May we finally got brave and gate-checked the stroller, and it was good.

For anyone worried about the second checked bag, CHECK with your airline to see if baby/kid gear items like safety seats and strollers are actually considered "luggage". I know it wasn't with Jet Blue in May, and Virgin America clearly states that it's not with them, either. And it isn't with SW. So be sure to check with your specific airline BEFORE making decisions about bringing your stroller.

Unless you're staying at the Grand Californian, or plan to be in Tomorrowland each time you want to leave the park to go to Disneyland Hotel (to take the monorail), you are going to WANT that stroller to get to and especially FROM the parks. Even Paradise Pier is a bit of a haul!

And really, getting to your hotel after a long day at the park is the biggest time you want, nay, NEED a stroller. Alas, that's exactly when you have to bid your rental stroller adieu!

Oh, and I could NEVER figure out how to FOLD the strollers we rented. 3 years, couldn't fold it once. So if we took the railroad, we made sure to take it round trip, and just left the stroller there in stroller parking, to be picked up later.

Thanks for the pictures and airline info. I think I will want my own stroller. I hope the airlines don't get crazy and start charging for car seats and strollers. I now have a long list of questions to ask the airline before we go... ;)

Is it normal to leave your stroller at the rental place.. I mean there are other strollers there, I saw someone mention it before randomly but I have never really noticed other random strollers there before, but I also didn't pay much attention either. This will be our first time with the little one in the park and I prefer to travel light and just bring a cheapie stroller for the airport and hotel to disneyland trek.

Plus we have a disney visa.. so free stroller :)

I think that dangermouse has said that you can actually hand your stroller over to the rental people and they will hold onto it for you. Seems too good to be true! :upsidedow

We were just there two weeks ago and used my DV to get free stroller rentals for the first time. I will NEVER push my own umbrella stroller through the parks again! I loved the Disney strollers - they push so easily and are nice and comfortable, even for my six year old when she took a few turns. In any case, I can vouch that yes you can check your own stroller at the rental site. They give you a claim tag to reclaim your stroller at the end of the day. It was a very smooth process.

As a recent Disney Visa card holder, I must declare how wonderful it is!!! Free stroller rentals, a $50 gift card for signing up, park discounts, and under two months, I've already earned $40 in rewards. Sweet!

We rented one on our last trip, just for a day. I think we did it for one of the older kids because it was getting late in the park. It was before Fantasmic, so very late.

Thanks for confirming the process for "checking" your stroller with the rental site. I am glad to here its an official process and no one will think I am crazy when I ask :)
