We were on Oahu this past week and drove out to Ko'Olina to look at where Disney is going to build the new resort. There is really not a lot to see yet, but if you are like me, anything is good.

Location of Resort (per Honolulu newspaper)

thanks so much! I'm not even a DVC member (yet!) but knowing that hawaii would be an option makes me want to work that much harder to convince DH and sign up. Hawaii has always been one of my dream destinations.

Is there any idea when the resort will be opening? thanks! :thumbsup2

I own at Marriott'as Ko Olina right next to the site where Disney is building. Ritz Carlton was originally going to build there, then Donald Trump was trying to make a deal for the property. Luckily, Disney ended up with it. It is a very peaceful resort area with great sunsets (and Mai Tai's) and does not reflect any of the hectic feel of downtown Honolulu, which is about 30 minutes away. I look forward to having DVC/Disney moving into the neighborhood!

It's hard to tell from the pics, but how close is the beach? I think I see the water in the distance but I'm not 100% sure.

I read on TUGS that there is a landfill near the site Disney wants to build & Disney is using its pull to get the site closed & to get Oahu to ship its garbage to oregon (or Washington). Apparently, a lot of people in Oregon are upset at Disney - it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.:confused3

Thanks for the pictures. I dont imagine we will see progress on this site for a while, but its nice to get an idea of where it hopefully will be!:thumbsup2

:scared1: :scared1: We don't need anymore garbage! Can you imagine the amount of garbage from a resort like that! I love Disney, but I don't want their garbage!

The resort is expected to open in 2011.

Yes it is on the beach. Note one the first picture (the map) it will have a little cove area.

Does the area look a little on the small side?

As for size, the pictures do not do it justice. The property measures 21 acers in total.

Here's a couple of pictures to add that'll give you a bit more sense of scale. My wife and I actually stayed at Ko last year thru II - beautiful resort, what DVC does will be a wonderful addition to what is already a great location. :)

Took this from the airplane on approach to landing at Honolulu:

There is a walking path from the bottom beach to the top one, but it is somewhat of a long walk.

And this'll give you an idea of the kind of view you will probably have:

I'm kind of disappointed that they are turning the Ko'Olina area into another Waikiki. I wish it would be more like the Princeville area in Kauai where you feel like you are in a vacation home instead of a hotel.

Fear not...KoOlina will never become Waikiki. The Disney property will fit in well...it is a beautiful, tranquil area.

I agree. There seems to be a lot of residential property around the area. That and the beautiful golf course all adds up to land that isn't going to be too congested at all. We love the area.
