Yes . . . there is a generous layer of buttercream under the fondant! Yum! The fondant was removed before serving. It was sooooo tasty! We talk at least once a week about how amazing the wedding cake was.
We're actually heading back to Disney for our summer vacation (and to get a little more use out of our complimentary annual passes) on Saturday. We just hit our six-monthaversary on Tuesday and we won't make it back for our "real" anniversary this year, so Brian called the GF Bake Shop and ordered a re-creation of our top wedding cake layer (8-inch), but in the flavors we had for the bottom layer - almond cake and amaretto mousse. We were told we could pick it up any time Saturday night from the GF front desk (they'll call back to the Bake Shop, which is open 24 hours a day, when we arrive).
(In case anyone is interested . . . the cost is $80 . . . worth every penny!)
This isn't a great photo of the cake, but it helps show you where we asked for the cake to put in relation to the room (behind the photographer is the door out to the front catwalk). Originally, the room diagram had the cake on the side wall near the entry door but I didn't like the idea of the cake being half way out the door.
