If I remember my lore right (Robo would know) early on in Epcot they wanted to develope it's own flavor and keep traditional characters out so they made these guys along with Figment. The never picked up with the kids and after a while they were just used for parades and the like and have since faded away. hadn't seen them myself but I remember reading about them in a Disney book called Reality Land: The True Story of Walt Disney World.

Thanks Kathy and Carol... not my picture.. These were taken by my father in law. He loved WDW too and treated my DH and I and our 4 kids (5 - 11 yrs) to a week at WDW a few years later.. a good man..

Does ANYONE know anything about this character? I'm thinking China in WS but not sure..

I do not know the character, but I can tell you that is NOT in front of the China Pavilion. That is looking like it is in front of, or a bit east of France.

Thanks, I was mostly thinking the character's costume looked Chinese.. But if this picture was taken over by France... maybe he is Moroccan or Japanese??

Actually, I could see it more as a French character... The face. You might want to check some of the Epcot specialty pages, groups and see what you can find on it!

I think that space behind is where Beauty and the Beast now pose for photos.
