Final Academic Awards for our soon to be college graduate this morning and it was the best one ever! She was honored to receive the ASC Medal of Honor presented by HPU and the Conference they're associated with. It's given to the male and female athlete who has compiled the most outstanding record in academics, athletics and leadership over their collegiate career. She was also named Outstanding Student in Mathematics along with 3 of her soccer teammates who earned Outstanding Student in Nursing, Biology and Math Research. Good day...and proud Coach...for the young ladies!

Off for the weekend to watch our dancer "do her thing"! First competition in San Antonio in about 10 years; excited to stay on the Riverwalk and enjoy a weekend with her Center Stage family.

What a start for the competition! 7 performances, 7 medals...plus Top Overall for Contemporary; $250 check for another top performance AND the studio earned the Top Studio Award for excellence on and off the stage! They made quite an impression tonight and I thought the owner was going to pass out she was so excited! Needless to say so were the girls!

This is why I don't think of Colorado Springs as a large city though it's the second largest in the state. I guess coming from the congested Washington, DC metro area it just doesn't seem that big.

I've always wanted to go there!

It's an interesting place to visit and oh my goodness...the restaurants! Everything from "walk up bars" to "high end dining"; Tex-Mex to IRISH PUBS! Very peaceful but, it's a good thing we've had "Disney training" and know how to deal with crowds. Especially this past weekend...the 76th Annual Fiesta Flambeau Parade...the largest illuminated night parade in America. With right at 250 entries, almost 3 miles long and 750,000 lining the streets it was pretty crazy! It started at 7 PM and when we left the dance convention venue (at the end of the parade) it was STILL in progress at 11:30 pm! We watched a few minutes of it but decided we'd better start back to the hotel before the crowd broke up. We left street level to the Riverwalk and found it easy going...thank goodness! Those streets looked more crowded than Main Street after the fireworks! I'll share more photos of the Riverwalk over the next few days. Only "downside" is the "dirty river"; I'd prefer it be crystal clear but that part of Texas has "muddy rivers".

Nothing wakes you up faster than seeing a fire truck parked in front of your house at 8 AM yesterday! When we looked further up the street we saw several police cars and an ambulance but none of these vehicles arrived with lights and sirens. We eventually found out that a neighbor had passed away in their sleep. It was so sad to see a young mother and her two elementary school age daughters being comforted by the police and firemen as they waited down the street from their house. We didn't personally know this family but I'm sure one of our neighbors will start something for them.
