I had it stored without any batteries inside. It came with 2 sets of batteries so I inserted one of the sets (after using a very tiny Phillips Head screwdriver) and just began pressing on the front until the lights came on. It rotates through other light color variations shown here although they don't really show up as well. I have read online that a couple attractions were still causing it to light up as recently as 2016.
Safe arrival to the COOL state of Washington...it was 60 DEGREES when we got off the plane in Spokane! Coming from a high yesterday of 104 a much needed improvement! Traveled through the farm country this afternoon on our way to Walla Walla...a strangely beautiful drive! Soccer team arrives from Seattle tomorrow...
Was so excited to visit with Allie last night I forgot to post a picture of our travels yesterday. We drove 3 hours along the Columbia River to northwest Oregon to visit some beautiful waterfalls. Could post many photos but will save them for later and show you my favorite!
Washington state is soooooo beautiful! I remember thinking that I had never seen so many tall trees in one place. If they didn't have earthquake, volcanic eruption and tsunami dangers we would have considered retiring there.

SO true! David swears there was a small earthquake Sunday evening when we were in downtown Spokane! We stood there and watched a stop sign "quiver" after our dinner at an Irish Pub! (More on that later !) The trees were amazing! Of course, the days we were out exploring we had "not fun" weather with misty rain, heavy clouds and the occasional heavy rain shower but I did get a few nice "tree photos". We really liked Idaho too; told David as we were walking around under our umbrella , "I could very easily live here"! At least the weather was nice for both soccer days!
That smile made the trip "successful"! She came down to greet us in the lobby when we returned from our "Columbia River/waterfalls" day which so happened to be David's birthday. We'd stopped at the most adorable "country cafe" called COUSINS (upon a recommendation by a local) and brought pie back for his birthday!
On Sunday we went to the annual Balloon Liftoff here in the Springs but this is as high as the balloons made it due to high winds above the mountains. Still a beautiful day with more pictures to follow!
Part of the parent group that made the trip with the HPU soccer team. Nice getting to know the parents of DGD's teammates. (David was busy finding the perfect dinner place for us; we had one HUNGRY granddaughter after the game! )
