You all are making me want to add a few nights at the GF Concierge! Janet, the champagne and flutes look wonderful! I think I have read that you stayed in the main building, is that correct? I was thinking I'd try Sugar Loaf, but don't know a lot about it. Do they have drinks (wine/beer) with night time snacks? And if I set up something like the champagne would it be there when we arrived? DH is in the AirForce and will be leaving us for a year starting the end of Feb (we may get to live with him the last 6 or so months...not sure) so this is a very important trip for us.
OK, and I have to ask a stupid question...was there champagne in that chocolate bottle?
Briarmom, staying in a concierge room can oftentimes make for a very lovely vacation. But you don't need to do that in order to have a memorable vacation, all you need is the proper attitude (one of fun, silliness, and adventure). It doesn't matter where you stay when you have the proper attitude. Of course, I adore the Grand Floridian and have had some very memorable stays there (silly & sentimental). If I could follow my heart's desire on every vacation, I would be living at that place,
~sigh.~ I'd actually set up a bed out on the pool deck since hanging out at the pool is my favorite thing to do at the Grand (but I don't think they'd ever allow me to do that,
drats).
Yes, for my last two Grand Floridian stays, I was in the Main Building. The Grand Floridian actually put me in the last room on the hallway that overlooked the Marina. For my Fairy Tale Weddings vacation, I was on the 3rd floor. For my Summer vacation, I was directly one floor above that room on the 4th floor. Being in the last room made for wonderful peace and quiet since there was truly no foot traffic outside of our room. Part of me wondered if the Grand did that because we were such a fun-loving family and they didn't want us bothering their other guests.
Nah, the Grand would never do that.
If you check out the GF FAQ thread here on the Dis, I mentioned in it a few weeks ago that my daughter & I went on a
spy mission to the Sugar Loaf building during our Summer vacation. She took photos of the late night food & beverage offerings. I shared those photos in the GF FAQ thread. I'll share them here, too:
click here. The photos should give you an idea as to what the new late-night offerings are like.
If you arranged for in-room surprises to be waiting for your family, the Grand Floridian is pretty good about making sure that happens. (Of course, mix-ups occur since people are human, so be prepared with a backup plan just in case.)
Please tell your husband that I sincerely appreciate the sacrifices that he is making for our country. Ill keep him (and the rest of our Service People) in my prayers.
Remember, there are no stupid/silly questions here on the Dis. Questions need to be asked, and then they need to be answered. If youre wondering about something, you can bet that someone else is, too.
In regards to your last question, like my sidekick (a.k.a., Meezers) mentioned, the champagne bottle was hollow. When I first saw it, I assumed that it was a bottle that had been coated in chocolate because I have seen that done before. However, the Grand Floridians champagne bottle was nothing but chocolate (no glass bottle, no liquid refreshment). It took a bit of force on my part to prove that to myself. I had to push pretty hard on the champagne bottle in order to break it free from the piece of marble that it was set upon (the marble slab can be seen in
this photo). The base of the bottle actually stayed stuck to the marble and that is how I discovered that the champagne bottle was made of nothing but chocolate.
I hope this helped.
