Word of warning................ you will probably be asked for TWO forms of picture ID when checking in at Cruise Pier. Some USA citizens have been caught unaware on arrival at Port. Dont want any of you to have a last minute panic! Cant afford to waste valuable MAGIC time!!!

May I ask what these two types of photo ID must consist of? Upon booking, I was told certified birth certificate & state photo ID/license were needed.

I've never needed more than a passport, even post-9/11.

The DCL website still says that you need either a passport or the combination birth certificate/photo ID. No mention of a second form of photo ID. Of course, this is qualified with a statement that says this information is subject to change at any time.

When we cruised last month it was one photo id per adult and a certified birth certificate for each member of your party (children did not need the photo id) I do have more than one type of photo ID but only have kept one with my documents in the past. When did this change?

When we received our documents package two days ago it had a big day glow orange sticker on the front. It informed us that all adults had to have a photo id and everyone had to have either a passport or certified birth certificate. No mention of an additional photo id.

Exact wording on Docs
All United States citizens must present one of the following as proof of U.S. citizenship for each member of the party:

1. Valid U.S. Passport

2. Birth Certificate (original with raised seal). and a Picture ID issued by Local, State or Federal government (for children under 18, only a valid certificate is required if traveling with parent/legal guardian). Copies of birth certificates without a raised seal are not acceptable.

3. Certified Naturalization Cetificate and a Picture ID issued by Local, State or Federal government.

Key word in first sentence one

US citizens are ok with normal ID as you mention, but if you
are boarding with a non-USA passport, you will almost certainly be required to show further photo ID, such as a photo
driving license. Some people have been unaware of this in the past, and I felt it necessary to mention it , in case of any problems. In light of strict security, it makes a lot of sense. Happy sailing!

Do UK travellers need the photo drivers license? DH and I were thinking of getting them ( we have old style licenses) but what about our DD age 14. The only picture ID she has or is likely to get is her passport.
Do we need full birth certificates or will the short ones do?

I have been in touch with DCL about the post somewhere on this board which says that UK passengers have to pick up their passports each morning at 6am!!! Dave confirmed this so I thought maybe DCL could tell me if there is any way around it. This reply came back which doesn't help at all with my questions.

All non-US citizens are required to present proper documentation for travel into and out of the U.S. Non-US citizens must surrender their passports before boarding the ship at the terminal. On the morning of disembarkation, you will need to present yourselves to U.S. Immigrations, and at this time your passports will be returned. However, please be assured that the passports are onboard the ship the entire time.

I am sure we must need some form of ID to get off at the Bahamas but if they have our passports what happens?

I am really concerned about taking the right docs and of course trying to avoid that awful 6am start. It seems stupid that on holiday we should have to rise earlier than at home.

Any advice would be great

Thanks

Kay

Hi Kay. RE: UK travellers: Dont worry, you DONT have to get up EVERY morning at 6.00am!!! We did the Eastern Cruise in 2001 and only had to set the alarm clock for St. Thomas day. Passports are kept on board, but you have to go to immigration on board that day, as you are re-entering USA territory. I believe ALL family members have to attend immigration - so be warned! Mind you, you can go straight back to bed after being checked. Not sure about the Western cruise: guess same thing will apply. With regard to photo driving licences: we would have had MAJOR problems if we had arrived at the port without one! We only found out by chance that we needed them! Things have changed since our last cruise, and 2 photo ID's for non USA adults are required. Im sure passport photos for children are sufficient. Happy holidays.

Sorry about the confusion, Kaslee. No, you don't have to get up at 6am every morning. Only on the last morning at Port Canaveral (all cruises) and at St. Thomas (Eastern Caribbean cruise).

As for your DD14, she'll need a passport to sail, but she won't need an additional photo ID for getting on/off the boat at the ports of call.

Many thanks for your replies. Its really put my mind at rest. I was so worried about the early mornings, but thats great news.

I will definately be getting the photo drivers license now as you suggest.

Many thanks again
