Pics of the cake that started it all LOL

OK, I copied and pasted the first thread. I am glad you are happy with the results. I personally think $400, a cake tasting and a professional photographer is over the top for a 1st birthday, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

If the $$$ is there, go for it. :thumbsup2 It's not over the top for everyone.

About a month ago I posted on the Budget Board ( that is my normal hangout besides here) about the cake we were getting for my Grandchilds birthday and how much was fair to pay .
Well you have to read the thread to understand but man oh man I was "bad person" for about 3 days . Some people sent me PM's saying I was making it up for attention LOL :lmao: my life is not made up although I wish it were sometimes . So I said I would post pics when we got it . So here ya go , there are more on the BB thread .

That cake is adorable!!

If you have the money and buying the cake makes you happy, then I wouldn't worry about what other people are saying. The best money spent is the kind that brings happiness.

wouldnt it be in my case " what floats my yacht " no no kidding just kidding .

It really was wonderful , no one had to worry about taking pictures because Holland was there with all her gear and taking all the pics for us.

You only live once and to tell you the truth the 2nd grandchild is getting a twinkie with a candle in it ... no no just kidding again bawwwhwwaaa come guys it is a joke laugh with me :rotfl:

This post is hysterical. I am of the mind that you get to decide how you want to live your life and spend your money. The cake is beautful - will check the other board for the other pictures.

Yes, first birthdays are not really for the child anyways. They are for the parents, family members & friends. It's a celebration of LIFE, more than that the kid is going to know (s)he is getting a fancy cake.

So, how much did the pictured cake cost? I'm guessing, based on prices around here, it was about $75. BTW, it's adorable, and so is the granddaughter!

Congrats on a very successful party. I think your grandbaby is so cute. The cake looks great.

I remember that one

Thanks for coming back and posting a pic

Very cute..
looks like it all turned out great in the end

That is a beautiful cake and I am glad everything turned out so nicely.

I missed the original thread, but I wanted to add my 2 cents on the price. I work for a bakery(specializing in wedding and specialty cakes like this one) Many people do not realize the amount of time, detail and cost of supplies to make a cake like this happen. From the picture, it looks like the butterflies and flowers were molded with fondant. Fondant is not easy to work with and then to add in the coloring and detail to each individual one took hours. Depending on the type of icing used, the decorator needed to get the right consistency(again this takes time) and then had to get the coloring "just right" for each layer. I can guarantee that this was many hours of work just on the decorating...and not cheap on the supplies. When you factor in the cost of the cake and then the time to bake each layer and get it correct that really adds up. I would almost guarantee that no less than 8 to 10 hours was spent on this cake alone.
