About a month ago I posted on the Budget Board ( that is my normal hangout besides here) about the cake we were getting for my Grandchilds birthday and how much was fair to pay .
Well you have to read the thread to understand but man oh man I was "bad person" for about 3 days . Some people sent me PM's saying I was making it up for attention LOL :lmao: my life is not made up although I wish it were sometimes . So I said I would post pics when we got it . So here ya go , there are more on the BB thread .

I never saw the thread but that is a really cute cake!

I think its very cute. And although I didn't see the thread, I think if you are willing to pay it, and it's what you want, who cares what others have to say? :goodvibes

I didn't see the thread either but I love that cake. It's beautiful. :)

Something tells me that Princess Ella will have a fantastic cake also : ) ( not stalking you LOL just saw your ticket)

Thanks guys I thought it was really cute ! the little cake for the baby matched it it was every inch as cute as the big cakes.

That cake is gorgeous! I did not see the other thread, but in my experience people on budget board type forums get really set in their budget ways and philosophies. On a different board I posted something about purchasing a new car. I was lectured about how a new car was a want and not a need. Well who asked you?

Oh yeah I remember that thread. It was the price that people were surprised about. After all it's a first birthday party. But I say it's your money and if that's how you want to spend it- Remember though you started it with a "isn't this a lot to spend on a cake?" and you got a lot of YES IT IS's. :rotfl2:
It's a very cute cake. Hope the party was fun.

How did it taste?
Oh and wan't it supposed to be Pooh?

No I asked what was fair LOL because I was really upset they were treating like a wedding cake but wouldnt bring it out like they would a wedding cake . Yes my DD changed everything about this dang party but it was really fun and the cake was very tasty . The bottom was yellow the middle was chocolate and the top was red velvet ( like her Mommy and daddys wedding cake )
So pooh was OUT and pink was in , over on the BB I posted 3 pics and one of my precious grandchild as well .

What is fair to pay for a 1st birthday cake ? Update with Pics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My DGD is going to be 1 in August and we are going to pay for the cake and food . My DD found a nice bakery and we are doing our cake tasting in a week . The birthday party is on a Sunday and they have already told us they will not bring the cake for any amount of money . I asked about why they did Wedding cakes but not this cake ( it is the size of a small wedding cake ) she had no answers for me .

They are treating it like a wedding cake , tastings for filling frostings, cakes, took my deposit to hold the date ect. But they are not willing to bring it out on Sunday .

So my question is how much do you think is fair ? They are charging us like a wedding cake since that is really what it is is but in pooh bear and 100 acre woods . I think 275.00 is steap for a 4 tier cake that feeds 130 people . We did order 1 sheet cake and a small cake to match the top tier for just the baby . So they are making alot of cakes for us and all together are getting about 400 bucks out of me .

My DH said he will pay but he thinks we are getting the big KWIM

And before it starts yes I know this is crazy for a cake for a baby but it is our only Grandchild .

OK, I copied and pasted the first thread. I am glad you are happy with the results. I personally think $400, a cake tasting and a professional photographer is over the top for a 1st birthday, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

wouldnt it be in my case " what floats my yacht " no no kidding just kidding .

It really was wonderful , no one had to worry about taking pictures because Holland was there with all her gear and taking all the pics for us.

You only live once and to tell you the truth the 2nd grandchild is getting a twinkie with a candle in it ... no no just kidding again bawwwhwwaaa come guys it is a joke laugh with me :rotfl:

What a cute cake! Would I spend that much money on a cake? Only if Duff Goldman made it :) I have no problem with what you do with your money, though! Think of the cute scrapbook pages! If it makes you happy... that's all that matters!

But just by reading the post that was pasted over here, I have a feeling your problem was that the baker wouldn't deliver the cake because it wasn't for a wedding? Not that you were spending the money in the first place?

You should have had someone call and ask for a quote with your exact specs (minus the 100 acre wood... LOL) and see what they would have charged.

I think that's weird. They deliver on Ace of Cakes :) They're always worried about the transport of the cake.

Now I'm hungry...!

That's a very cute cake but I gotta admit, I was expecting to be WOW'ed after the first thread. Sorry, but it just doesn't look like a $400 cake to me.:confused3
Oh well, hope you all had a fun time at the party!

I agree..right down to the being hungry! Cake sounds soooo good now. I think the cake looks great, OP. I hope that the party was fantastic!!

It's not the $400 cake.

That is a darling cake!

But - yikes! - that's a lot of $$$ to spend on a cake! I know I'm cheap when it comes to cakes because when our older DS got married, he and his fiancee received their wedding cake as a gift from a friend who is a baker. And then when younger DS got married, his bride's cousin, who works in a bakery, made a whole lotta cupcakes and one tiny cake for cutting.

But, hey - if that's what you want, I'd say go for it. But if you really wanted it delivered, I would have found a bakery that would deliver on a Sunday.
(I agree, it doesn't make sense that they deliver wedding cakes on Sundays, but not birthday cakes, when they cost the same.)

OP, do you have a link to your other thread? Very cute cake, BTW.

If this cake cost 275. why do people keep aking if it was 400. ?

Cute cake. Your money, spend it the way you want to!

My DH made all of DD's b-day cakes except the first which came from the store. He's quite talented!

I think the rest of the cost was for delivery? I may be wrong.
