I am visiting Disney World with my 2 children (11 & 15) between 15/8/04 and 29/8/04. We plan to take some 'time out' from the parks each day between 12 noon and 2pm. I suspect the Quality Inn Plaza on International Drive where we are are staying is too far to return for a rest as the effort wouldn't justify the reward.
I would like to know if there is anywhere just outside of the parks where you can park the car and go for a picnic/snooze.

The only place I can think of would be Fort Wilderness campground - still within WDW but not 'in the parks'.

However, I don't think I'd want to be in a parked car or picnicking during the middle of the day in August in Orlando; I'd be looking for some air-conditioning somewhere! I think it will really bo too hot and uncomfortable to do what you're suggesting, and maybe a couple of hours sitting having a cool drink and snack somewhere might be a better way to chill out.

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the parks, how about heading to one of the WDW hotels. The value and moderate resorts have food courts and you should be able to pick up something that won't completely break the bank, then find a quiet spot to sit and relax. The theming is great in all the WDW resorts and it's fun to look around. (Just a reminder that non-guests are not allowed to use the resort pools.)
