Picky meat eater and quality of meat served?

I know someone who will not eat any kind of meat on a bone, so it's possible the OP is like that as well. You would need to be referred to places that serve a boneless chicken breast or boneless meat cut such as a filet. Keep in mind that most places will serve this sort of food to others, so if the case is that you just can't stand seeing it, there won't be many places you can go. If you are looking for organic or high quality meats I think it likely you won't find them many places at WDW - definitely not at Ohana, although the meat there is cubed and not served on the bone (like kebabs)

I don't care about eating animals. They taste good. But I have an issue with beef fat. I do not like the appearance or texture of fat or gristle on beef. That is why I will not order steak in a restaurant - I want to see how much fat it has hanging off it first. The only foods that make me ill due to an aversion are cooked eggs (scrambled is tolerable) and plain, unflavored mayonnaise. I will not ever eat those.

Didn't the recent outbreak of e-coli in Germany come from vegetables? And there was the spinach outbreak in this country. I don't believe going vegan guarantees you won't get e-coli. I am sure it has other health benefits (personally I have no intention of giving up the critters - they taste good) but that isn't one of them.

of course one solution would be just to BYOS....

No recognizable bones, flesh, feathers....consistent texture...I'm just sayin...

;)

IF you go on a DCL cruise and BYOS to the dining rooms....I wonder if they'll charge you an "un-canning" fee?

:lmao:

Okay. Probably not that funny to most people! *LOL*

The father of one of my childhood friends absolutely loved Spam! They had it at least once a week. A legacy of being in the US military during WWII. Let's just say there are some funny memories attached to that! ;)

I'm also a picky eater, accustomed to a fairly low-sodium diet, and am seriously allergic to shellfish. Love fish, but shellfish will send me to the emergency room! *eek* Haven't had an issue in over 20 years (accidentally consumed some shellfish in one of those dim, romantic restaurants--not a vary romantic end to the evening! *LOL*).

I'm also a former vegetarian (about 25 years). I used to tease my ex that he corrupted me. It really was practicality--I didn't have time to prepare meals for everyone else and something different for myself! And I really do like many meats, if they are prepared correctly. What I don't like is seasoning--including sauces and marinades.

I'm also picky about the way food is served. I don't like different foods touching one another. I'm much better than I was as a child, but still have serious issues. The only time I will say anything unflattering about any food is if someone continuously presses me to eat something and won't accept "no" for an answer. At that point, I consider them to be rude and will return the favor if they refuse to desist!

OP, you are so not alone with your food preferences. Many of us just manage to hide it pretty well! *LOL*

What you described has nothing to with quality of meat or for that matter health, what you described is just.....crazy.

:sad2: Wow, that was so rude....

OP: I'm very similar to you in this way. I was actually vegetarian for 10 years and now I eat meat, but I am VERY picky about the meat that I choose to eat. I prefer kosher meat when we cook at home. I will also not eat anything on the bone-it grosses me out. I will eat whole fish that doesn't taste too "fishy" (like haddock or schrod), but hardly any shellfish-the texture irks me, though for some reason the texture of lobster or certain sushi does not irk me. When we go out to eat I only eat white meat chicken (off the bone), filet or flank steak, pork tenderloins, etc...

There are actually alot of people who have issues with the textures of certain foods. It doesn't mean they need to go vegetarian and it certainly does not mean they are crazy. Personally, I think it's crazy to criticize someone just because of a food preference. Seems almost childish.

OP, I am probably a weirder eater than you. I do not like just about everything because of texture and smell so I have a hard time going out to eat at "weird" places. I will not touch raw chicken and try not to look at it when I buy it at the grocery store (don't even get me started about chicken with the skin still on it) and I can't stand the smell of seafood and other "weird" foods. You are braver than me though, I would never step foot into most of the World Showcase restaurants at Epcot and won't stay at the Beach Club (we are doing Yacht instead) because I'm afraid of the smell at Cape May. I think it is a sensitivity thing that I've had as long as I can remember.

While I don't think any of the food is spectacular at Disney, some if it is pretty decent. Here are some things that I've found to be safe at Disney:

Mama Melrose-chicken parm or pizza (only place I will eat at HS)

Narcoosees & Yachtsman Steakhouse-filet (Your DH can get decent seafood at Narcoosees)

France-mac & cheese dish or filet

Tony's-chicken parm

Liberty Tree-roast turkey or club sandwich

Plaza-club sandwich

LeCellier-filet

Rainforest Cafe-turkey club wrap

We usually stay club level and eat a big breakfast, skip lunch or maybe get a snack and then eat an early TS dinner to avoid the CS restaurants. The only CS that I can stand is Wolfgang Pucks pizza or Earl of Sandwich.

I would completely avoid the buffets if I were you, especially if you don't like other "stuff" touching your food. People tend to spill stuff all of the place and mix up the spoons and I think they are a complete germfest anyway. Other people may not think so, but people with our issues will understand!

Also, don't be afraid to ask the TS place to modify your food. I always ask for no sauces or sub veggies that I don't like for ones that I do. I have never had a TS restaurant not be accommodating. I wouldn't expect it at a CS though, because they can't be as flexible.

OP, I totally sympathize with you. I am a little particular about my meat too. I am better now than I used to be, but I still can't stand the thought of eating any meat on the bone and everything has to be very well done. As long as you don't mind other people around you eating the things that bother you, I don't think you'll have to much trouble eating at TS restaurants. Just check out the menus before you make your ADR's for good options.

I have a similar problem. I'm wanting to see the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue, but am a little worried about what I will eat since the main options are fried chicken & ribs. I'm thinking about requesting a vegetarian option, but I'm not sure exactly how that works. Has anyone else done that?

Do you think at a sit down restaurant if it is a dish usually served on the bone I can ask them to serve it without?

Possibly with steak. I doubt you could have someone debone fried chicken, for example. But there are a lot of cuts of steak you can order that do not have bones.

I eat like you. Sorry people can be so rude.

Beware at the Coral Reef I ordered the chicken breast, there was a decorative bone sticking out. I freaked out. I am not sure if they are still doing that because I have never ordered it again!

I can tell you that the signature restaurants all have what you want.

I am super picky about my beef so I only eat filet mignon. The signature restaurants all have them and the Wave does also. I had that there 2 weeks ago and it was delicious!

I refuse to eat most counter service places, no burgers or hot dogs for me and those turkey legs totally gross me out.

I like Earl of Sandwich in DTD I like the Wolfgang Puck cafe and Main Street bakery (they have a mozzarella, basil and tomato sandwich that I find fresh and delicious).

That is it for counter service that I can suggest.

I wish you luck with your dining. I find that even with all my "issues" I can still eat really well in Disney, it just costs a small fortune!

:surfweb: Is this a trick question? There doesn't seem to be any right answer to this. I think you should just stick to vegetables and deserts.

I totally get it...I always seem to find something gross in my meat! I would go to O'hana, the meat is in chunks on skewers. I also like Le Cellier and Narcoossee's filet. Rose and Crown has good fish and chips and good steak. Liberty Tree Tavern has turkey pork and beef, all off the bone. I would not recommend any of the buffets for you, generally the meat is not very good if you are a picky eater. Hope this helps, Good Luck:)

Hi, fellow "Crazy, Picky Eater"! (Dontcha just hate judgmental Normal Eaters?!?)

I too am very picky - but I can't stand veggies or more 'off the wall' meats (i.e. veal, buffalo, ostrich). Doing TS meals for our family takes LOTS of research.

CS chicken nuggets - the adult meal - are chunks of chicken breast that are fried. Just like I make them at home, they are literally complete pieces of chicken, not the 'pressed, formed' chicken that you are probably imagining (i.e. McNuggets, or Banquet). However, Kids Chicken Nuggets at some CS places are like that.

The filet at LeCellier for lunch is a great choice. I always get it with cream cheese mashed potatoes instead of the risotto, without the mushroom or whatever sauce. I get a biga$$ plate with a pile of potatoes and a piece of meat. It's perfect!

The filet at Yachstman is the same for me - no sauce (although the peppercorn brandy sauce is super yummy!), and mashed potatoes.

There is a grilled chicken sammich at Sci-Fi that is a full breast on a bun. You can get teh bruschetta on the side, or not at all.

There is a burger at Liberty Inn that we just had a few months ago that had gruyere (I think), bacon and a dijon mustard. It was to die for!

Hmm, what else did we eat that you would like? Oh, sometimes at Saratoga's CS place, there is an applewood BBQ pork loin. No bones. No pink. BBQ on the side as requested. Super yummy!

I'll give you the same advice that someone gave me (and I gave to Hubby): Especially at TS restaurants, break down the description of the food into their basic parts.

For example:Char-grilled Beef Tenderloin - with Idaho Potato-Gruyere Tart, Seasonal Roots, and Pinot Noir Reduction $41.00
**This is steak, sliced potatoes with cheese, veggies and a wine sauce. Ask for the sauce on the side, and that everything is not touching and you would be fine. (In fact, I'm thinking of ordering this when we go in September).

Lastly, I gotta say that I have YET to meet a waiter at WDW that will not work with you. They are very accommodating!

Her's my dilemma, I am extremely choosy about the meat I eat and only eat chicken, beef, and some pork. Fish on rare occasion. I will not tolerate seafood of any type even touching my food and I won't eat meat unless it is a solid piece (meaning no chopped formed pressed meats), not on the bone like ribs or with carcass attached like a half chicken - so gross. I won't eat anything unless it is very lean or white meat chicken or pork. Where in WDW can I get a decent meal both counter service and sit down? I wanted to try Ohana but wasn't sure the quality of meat served.
I liked Wolfgang Puck's Express salads and pizza and pasta. I liked the burgers okay at Pecos Bill's. Not the buns though....blech.

Yeah, another person freaked out by meat! I'm totally like this too. Won't eat any meat on the bone, nor any seafood. Definetly nothing mixed up looking like barbeque. I don't let it bother me when others do though, DH and DS are practically carnivorous. I eat burgers, chicken tenders, bacon, stuff like that. I do enjoy the filet at Le Cellier, it's really good.

And I don't eat like this because I think killing is wrong or anything like that. Actually I don't really like animals all that much and I think they are dirty and gross and it freaks me out to think about eating them. I was vegetarian for a few years, but I missed bacon and Taco Bell.

Thanks for the info AmyKay. That was exactly what I wanted to know, I love chicken nuggets if they are whole pieces of chicken and not chopped pressed and formed. I tend to cook at home and not go out much as I am so picky about the meats. I do tend to order pasta and salad a lot dining out, but that gets old. So I appreciate that type of info!

Mmmm that sounds good, I think I will order that too!
Hey what is the deal with all the food piled up anyway? I saw one plate I think it was the California Grill and it was mashed potatoes on the bottom, topped with asparagus spears, and then on top of that the meat like a little tower of food. Sorry, but I want it all separate and not all piled up. I don't want my food touching unless I arrange it that way! I'm going to have to request them plate mine differently when I dine there.

You are very welcome! 'Shaped' chicken scares me, so I tend to stay away from it. The adult nuggets are really good, too! They are breaded rather than battered, so they aren't too greasy either.

I don't get the Piling of Food either. What if I don't think that the sauce you put on the steak tastes good with the mashed potatoes on the bottom of the plate? I'm screwed and have to eat icky potatoes. The only exception to the piling is when I get the plain filet and mashed potatoes at LeCellier. I'm fine with that. Otherwise, keep my food separate too! They will be more than willing to plate everything separately for you.

Good luck on your Eating Around the World! There's lots of good food, us picky eaters just have to work a bit harder to enjoy it. But it's worth it! :thumbsup2

Shaped chicken isn't food in my estimation, I don't let my DD7 eat anything that processed. Piling of food (as you put it) is presentation and probably would be geared toward "diners" rather than "eaters" if that makes sense. I think some people dine and some people eat.
